Abstract
Technique de compression d'images appelée codage en sous-bandes vectorielles faisant appel à une opération fondée sur des vecteurs pour coder des images. Dans le codage en sous-bandes vectorielles, une image est d'abord décomposée en un ensemble de sous-bandes vectorielles à l'aide d'un banc de filtres vectoriels, avant que soit effectuée une quantification vectorielle sur chaque vecteur dans toutes les sous-bandes vectorielles. Le banc de filtres vectoriels permet non seulement de réduire la corrélation inter-vectorielle et inter-bandes, mais également de maintenir la corrélation intra-vectorielle. Grâce à cette caractéristique, on obtient une sensible augmentation de l'efficacité de l'opération de quantification vectorielle qui a lieu ensuite, tout en ayant un gain de codage important par rapport au codage en sous-bandes classique.
