Abstract
A current transformer (1) is used for detecting the current flowing in a bar-type conductor (7) and comprises a rectangular magnetic circuit (2) and two coil formers (4) disposed on opposite sides of the magnetic circuit (2) for the secondary winding (5). Inside the coil formers (4), the magnetic circuit (2) has a smaller cross-section (Q1) than in the area between the coil formers (4) where the cross-section is increased to a larger cross-section (Q2) by additional yoke members (13). Compared with a current transformer whose magnetic circuit has a cross-section which is constantly identical, the current transformer (1) described is characterised by fewer ohmic losses and improved linearity.
