Description
"Procedure for the optimized industrial manufacture of a set of rims for motor vehicle wheels with variable front configuration, and set of rims thus obtained."
* * * * * D E S C R I P T I O N
The present invention relates to a procedure for the optimized industrial manufacture of a set of rims for motor vehicle wheels with variable front configuration, and a set of rims thus obtained. It is known that the rims for motor vehicle wheels are affected to a considerable degree by the growing need of the customization of motor vehicles expressed by the purchasers of the same.
To this end the firms concerned with the production of rims have prepared catalogues that are sufficiently extensive to meet the most varied requirements, linked both to the type and to the model of motor vehicle and to the personal taste of the purchaser.
It follows that a great variety of rims is available on the market, from those made with more common materials to the more sophisticated ones using metal alloys; some of them consist of a singLe casing obtained by casting, others, on the other hand, comprise a rim casing on which a rim cover produced separately is applied. Such a diversification of production clearly constitutes a
problem for the firms: since each rim is different from the others, distinct production lines are necessary, and the management of inventories is also a greater burden.
These drawbacks are not overcome even by exploiting the solution of obtaining a rim for wheels constituted by a rim casing and by a separate rim cover, since each rim cover is conceived for application to a single type of rim casing.
In view of the state of the art described, the object of the present invention is that of providing an optimized industrial procedure for the manufacture of rims for motor vehicle wheels, that does not imply the mentioned problems.
According to the present invention, such object is attained thanks to a procedure for the manufacture of a set of rims for wheels, characterized in that it provides for the construction of a single rim casing and of a plurality of rim covers having a front surface with a variable configuration and a rear surface with a configuration that is complementary with the front surface of said rim casing so that they can be applied in alternative one to the other on said rim casing. Thanks to the manufacturing procedure according to the present invention, it is possible to obtain, starting from a single rim casing, a plurality of rims for wheels with a different appearance, simply by applying a particular rim cover to said rim casing and exploiting to this end suitable adaptor means or aligned holes in the rim casing and in the rim cover.
This allows substantial economies to be attained both in the manufacturing step and in the inventory management step, and it in any case meets the requirements of customization of the final users. These and other features of the present invention will be made more evident by the following detailed description of an embodiment thereof, illustrated as a non-limiting example in the enclosed drawings, wherein:
Fig. 1 shows, in a front view, a rim casing obtained with a procedure according to the invention;
Fig. 2 shows said rim casing in a sectional view taken along the line II-II of Fig. 1;
Fig. 3 shows said rim casing in a rear view;
Fig.s 4-9 show, in a front view, the rim casing of Fig. 1, on which, according to the procedure of the invention, six different rim covers are applied;
Fig.s 10-15 are sectional views, taken along the lines X-X of Fig. 4, XI-XI of Fig. 5, XII-XII of Fig. 6, XIII-XIII of Fig. 7, XIV-XIV of Fig. 8 and XV-XV of Fig. 9. Asshown in Fig.s 1, 2 and 3, a rim casing 1 is substantially constituted by an external crown 2, in which there is a channel 61 on which a tire not shown in the figure is fitted, by radial spokes 3, for example in the number of five, and by an internal crown 4. The internal crown 4 has a central hole 22; there are also
obtained in it by means of the front discharge of material five lobes 56, arranged radially and aligned with the spokes 3, in each of which there is a hole 60 useful for the passage of screws or bolts for fastening the rim to the axle of a motor vehicLe. Such lobes 56 define on said internal crown 4 five sectors 8, in each of which there is a dead hole 5, arranged in a circumferential succession with the other holes 5, for the insertion of screws suitable, as shall be made evident later, for fastening a rim cover. Each of the spokes 3 is provided in turn with a hole 6, which together with those on the other spokes 3 constitutes a further circumferential succession.
At the points of connection with the external crown 2, each spoke 3 also has a collar 7 protruding toward the front and toward the side.
Fig.s 4-15 show six different types of rim covers 50, 51, 52, 53, 54 and 55, respectively, each having a front surface with a particular configuration but all having a rear surface of a configuration that is complementary with the front surface of the rim casing 1.
The first type of rim cover 50, shown in Fig.s 4 and 10, that can be applied to the rim cover 1, is constituted by a cap 9 with a substantially decagonal shape covering the internal crown 4. The rim cover 50 is also provided with a circumferential succession of holes 23 for fastening it to the
internal crown 4 with screws 10 inserted from the front in the corresponding holes 5 on the internal crown 4 itself.
In the embodiment illustrated as an example in Fig.s 4 and
10, with the rim casing 1 there are also associated five clamps 11 mounted one on each of the five spokes 3 and fastened to the latter with screws 14 inserted from the rear in the circumferential succession of holes 6, with which the spokes 3 themselves are provided, and in respective holes 24 on the clamps 11. Said clamps 11 contribute to the customization of the rim sicne they can take many colours, possibly different from one clamp to the other.
The second type of rim cover 51, represented in Fig.s 5 and
11, has substantially the shape of a star with five radial arms
12, aligned with and superimposed over the spokes 3 of the rim casing 1; each of said arms 12 covers one of the spokes 3 completely, ending in the proximity of the collar 7. The entire rim cover 51 is fastened to the rim casing 1 with screws 13 inserted from the front in holes 25 in the arms 12 and coincident with the underlying holes 6 on the spokes 3. The third type of rim cover 52, represented in Fig.s 6 and 12, as for the previous rim cover 51, has substantially the shape of a star with five arms 26, aligned with and superimposed over the spokes 3 of the rim casing 1; such arms 26, however, extend in a radial direction beyond the spokes 3 and over the respective collars 7, and almost reach the
periphery of the external crown 2 of the rim casing 1. But the most important difference over the previous type of rim cover 51 is in the type of fastening to the rim casing 1, which in this case is obtained with an adaptor 15 in the shape of a circular crown, inserted in the central hole 22 of the rim casing 1 and linked to it by elastic tangs 16, in the front surface of which there are five holes 17, in circumferential succession, in which there are then inserted, through as many holes 19 in the rim cover 52, screws 18 for fastening the rim cover 52 itself.
The fourth type of rim cover 53, represented in Fig.s 7 and 13, is substantially similar to the previous rim cover 52, differing from the latter in the method of fastening to the rim casing 1, in that it no longer takes place with the adaptor 15, but, as in the case of the rim cover 51, with screws 13 inserted from the front in a circumferential succession of holes 27 in the rim cover 53 itself and coincident with the underlying holes 6 with which the spokes 3 are provided.
The fifth type of rim cover 54, represented in Fig.s 8 and 14, has a central part 21 with a substantially pentagonal shape and covering the internal crown 4 of the rim casing 1, from which there depart five arms 28, aligned with and superimposed over the spokes 3 of the rim casing 1; each of said arms 28 ends at the collar 7. The fastening of the rim cover 54 to the rim casing 1 is executed, as in the case of the rim cover 52,
by means of the adaptor 15, to which the rim cover 54 is in turn fastened with the screws 18.
The sixth type of rim cover 55, represented in Fig.s 9 and 15, comprises a number of arms that is a multiple of that of the spokes 3 of the underlying rim casing 1. The fastening to the rim casing, in a manner similar to the rim covers 52 and 54, takes place by means of the adaptor 15; but unlike the rim covers 52 and 54, fastened to the adaptor 15 with the screws 18, the rim cover 55 is fastened to the adaptor 15 thanks to the engagement of pins 70, with which the rim cover is provided, in the holes 17 of the adaptor 15.
For the optimized industrial manufacture of the entire set of rims described above, the procedure according to the invention provides for the construction of just one series of rough rim casings 1 all similar to one another, then the drilling of the fastening holes 60 and, if required, of holes 5 and 6, and lastly their diversification by the application of different rim covers (constructed separately) according to the final appearance desired for the rim. The clamps 11 of Fig.s 4 and 10 can also be provided.
