Abstract

A folding framework comprises a central tensioning device consisting of arms (5), pivot mounted on a cruciform nut (2) and held by stays (6) linked to the spider (3). The screw (1) on which are mounted the cruciform nut (2) and the spider (3) is rotated by a handle (4) and alters the distance between the latter from zero to a given limit. In this way the arms can fold parallel to the screw or take up a horizontal position. The ribs of the framework consist of bushings (11) through which pass flexible links (9) and which are linked by cross-pieces (12). With the framework in its working position, the flexible links are tensioned and the ribs of the framework form a rigid, extended structure. On release of the tensioning forces, the individual components forming the framework ribs move apart over the entire length of the flexible links and the framework can be folded to a compact shape.
