Description

PROFILE MOULDING FOR INTERCONNECTING PANELS:
The present invention refers to a device at a profile ledge for connection to a number of plate-shaped parts of a locker, which is formed by a number of plates connectable in angular relation to each other.
Lockers intended for at first hand school purpo¬ ses or other places of work, where the lockers are exposed to difficult and strength demanding conditions require stable building parts. Further it is required that such lockers are assembled and completed entirely at the factory of their manu¬ facture and subsequently are transported in voluminous state to the site of their use. One may thereby pay for freight of much unnecessary air space, rather than only pay for the mass that is transported. A risk of damage on the lockers during the transport also exists, why they have to be packed properly.
It is known to provide lockers which can be mounted on the site, whereby attachment means are used that can be screwed as well as pegs to join plates at corner areas. In order to mount pivotable doors on lockers, one has thereby in bored recesses allowed reception of houses of special pivot hinges at definite locations on the doors before screwing to the insides of the doors. Besides that said pivot hinges require certain dead space inside the locker by closed door, the strength has sometimes been poor at violent handling etc, with a risk of injuries on both people and objects.
It is also known to mount profile ledges for connection to a number plate-shaped parts of a locker, a furniture, interior decoration or any similar object, which is formed by a number of plates connectable in angular rela¬ tion to each other. One has thereby screwed plates to said profile ledges, which have not been used for the great amount of purposes they are adapted to. With reference to the above the main object of the present invention is with simple means to solve said problem safely and rationally, for example that packing up of parcels folded up in the factory to compact units can be opened by for example a school caretaker at spare time and who also can assemble the locker with simple means.
With a view of achieving a re nforcement of building plate edges and also be able to use similar edge reinforcements as a hold for pivot hinges, as well as simply and efficiently be able to fasten said edge reinforcements to
the present plates, which locker is formed by a number of plates connectable in angular relation to each other, this is also solved by means of the present invention.
Said main object is achieved according to the present invention by means of a device of the kind, which is defined in the preamble of patent claim 1, and which mainly is characterized therein, that a groove shaped coupling part situated at a profile ledge for receiving of a plate edge exhibits connection means, which is formed by plate clamping groove sides in pairs resilient relatively each other and between said groove sides and a barbed fastening flange ex¬ tending along the same, that in opposition from said connection means facing portion of the profile ledge exhibits oblique edge lateral surface, that the oblique edge lateral surface extends essentially with 45° in angle against the intended longitudinal mean plane of the plate receiving space of the coupling part, that a groove formed indentation extends along said oblique edge lateral surface, and that said oblique edge lateral surface is laterally displaced from one corner of the profile ledge, whereby a space is formed between the connection part counterfacing sides of the profile ledges connected in pairs by position of the oblique edge lateral surfaces of said profile ledges brought into position with said oblique edge lateral surfaces of said profile ledge brought to position extending along each other for receiving of hinge pivot and pivot receiving part.
The invention is described in the following such as a preferred embodiment, whereby is referred to the enclosed drawings, in which
Fig. 1 shows a perspective view of a locker assembly constructed according to the present invention,
Fig. 2 shows a schematic sectional view of a locker with different parts contained therein,
Fig. 3A-3G shows sectional views of profile ledges of various design in the device according to the pre¬ sent invention as well as hinge parts,
Fig. 4 shows a frontal view of a locker's pivot hinge in mounted position on a locker,
Fig. 5 shows an upper profile end seal seen from the side respectively from the above,
Fig. 6 shows in different views a mounted pivot hinge as well as parts contained therein,
Fig. 6A-6E shows the movement pattern of a pivot hinge by a door of a locker, Fig. 7 shows the locker in assembled state seen from the above, and
Fig. 8 shows a frontal view of the top of the locker seen along the line VIII-VIII in Fig. 7.
The locker structure 1, which is shown assembled in fig 1 of the drawings consists of several laterally and on the height combined lockers 2, 21, 22, 23 of different types, as well as a wall mounted shelf part 3. The invention is excellently adapted to be applied to production of similar lockers but even other furniture and fittings not shown and described as an example or other similar objects combined from a number of plates are made possible to be produced by means of the present invention. For sake of simplicity the present invention is shown and described merely in connection with a locker, which however does not prevent the use of the invention with other kinds of buildable objects, as for example mentioned above.
In the purpose of achieving a reinforcement the edges of the building plates and also be able to use similar edge reinforcements for other purposes than as reinforcement and edge protection for the plates in question, for example fastening for seals, pivot hinges, and to simply and efficien¬ tly be able to fasten said edge reinforcements to the present plates, which are contained in the construction, a device according to the invention is realized in the following way: For a device 4, at a profile ledge 5, 51 , 52, 53, 54 , which is intended for connection to a number of plate formed parts 6-9, for example plates such as preferably fibre boards or other fibre containing materials, in order to become part of for example a locker 2, a furniture, a fitting or any other similar object which is formed by a number of plates 6-9 connectable in angle X, Y, Z in relation to each other, the profile ledge 5-54 is designed in a special way. More exactly a groove formed coupling part 13 exhibits connection means 11, 12 of special type, situated on a profile ledge 5-54, which coupling part is intended for receiving a plate edge 10. Said connection means 11, 12 is formed by relatively each other resilient groove sides 14, 15 situated in pairs on a mutual distance A from each other, between which the plate edge 10 is provided to be received in order to be influenced by compres¬ sion via said groove sides 14, 15. As complemental connection means 12 or provided to operate as a single connection means for hook-up of a plate's edge 10 between said groove sides 14, 15 and along the same, or extending along a connectable plate's length mean plane 16 can be provided a barbed 17 preferably ledge formed fastening flange 18. Furthermore the profile ledge shows means 19, 191, 192, 193 adjoining said fastening means 11,12, which is provided to cooperate with an additional encountering plate 6-9 at desired angle X,Y,Z.
In purpose of enabling connection of various further parts to the locker etc 2 with the assistance of said profile ledges 5, 51 , 52 the portion 20, 201 , 202 oppositely facing said connection means 11, 12 of the profile ledge exhibits preferably an oblique edge lateral surface 22, 221, 222 extending inclined in relation to the longitudinal mean plane 21 of the profile ledge.
A groove formed indentation 23, 231, which is open in direction from said profile ledge, that is, across it's longitudinal direction, is preferably provided to extend along said oblique edge lateral surface 22, 22'. For the case that said indentation 231 is intended for reception of faste¬ ning part 24A on a seal ring 24, preferably a strip seal of elastic material, the said groove shaped indentation 231 is situated near the area of the tip 25 of the ledge profile as well as form adapted to said strip seal attachment part 24A. Thereby is made possible with doors D in pairs of the locker 2 closed to let one strip seal 24 or strip seals in pairs act between the edge lateral surfaces 221 adjustable in pairs along each other, with the indentation 231 laterally displaced from each other with certain distance B. One of the doors D1 always has to be opened before the other door D in said profile ledge arrangement with oblique counterfaced sealing ledge receiving surfaces 221.
In the case one wishes to support hinges with the said present ledges 4 a groove shaped indentation 23 extends longitudinally along the profile ledge 5 essentially at the central area of the oblique edge lateral surface 22. A plate formed fastening part 26 of a hinge portion with a portion 261 is receivable in said groove shaped indentation 23 and with remaining portion 262 of the fastening part 26 recei¬ vable in a form adapted lateral milling 27 situated between the receiving recess 23 and of the profile ledge end surface 28. Fixing of said pivot hinge part 26 to the ledge 5 may take place by means of rivet 29 or other joining means, which is receivable in the hole 30, which goes through the bottom 23A of said indentation.
For manufactural reasons among other things the profile ledge 5, 51 , 52 between said oblique edge lateral surface 22, 221 , 222 and a connection base part 31 there has been provided an encased tunnel shaped cavity 32 along its length extension.
Said profile ledges 5-54 are manufactured from metal or plastic material and preferably from light metal, through string moulding, that is, pressure extrusion alt. extrusion, whereby the manufactured ledges in long lengths are cut according to need when putting in order the parts in the furniture factory. The oblique the edge lateral surface 22, 221, 222 extends preferably essentially by 45° in angle against the longitudinal mean plane 21, of the coupling part intended for the plate receiving space 33, and at operation, as pivot hinge mount the said oblique edge lateral surface 22 is laterally displaced 34 in a direction from one corner 35 of the profile ledge. Hereby a space 36 is formed between coupling part opposite facing sides 28 in pairs connected profile ledges, at a position of door D respectively D1 with said oblique edge lateral surfaces 22 of said profile ledge brought to extend closely along each other, fig 2 and 6A. In said corner space 36 between the profile ledges 5 in pairs is made possible to receive a pivot 39 belonging to a hinge 38 and pivot receiving part 40 respectively as well as washer 37. The bottom and top plate of said locker etc 2 can be attached to a fastening flange 41 extending in angle to the side out from a groove side 14 on an appropriate level . A designed closing plate 9 consequently can be screwed tight to the fastening flange 41, from the above alt. from below dependent on which level the said fastening flange 41 is situa¬ ted.
A ledge 55, which is suitable to be mounted on horizontal end edge surfaces 42 of for example doors D, D1 as well as other end edge surfaces, likewise exhibit fastening means 11, 12 according to the above mentioned.
In fig 4 is shown profile ledge seals 43, which for example consist of plastic material and which have a plug part 44 protruding from a plate formed base part 45 with fastening hole 46. After tucking down the plug part 44 in the profile cavity 32 the profile ledge seal 43 can be screwed tight into the goods of the profile ledge.
The profile ledge 52 is adapted, such as clearly appears from fig 2 and 7 to form connection between side and back plates 7-8, whereby the back plate 8 is inserted in plate connection space 47 of the profile ledges 52 respec¬ tively and are screwed tight from the out or the inside of the locker etc 2. With plates is also referred to for example such doors D2 which have a round about frame 48 with a surface of glass or other plate shaped panel like bridging surface. The door frame 48 thereby functions as fastening part for said profile ledges 5, 51 , 55 instead of a whole plate, as in remai¬ ning cases, but the function will be the same.
The resilient function of the groove sides 14, 15 of profile ledge is achieved preferably owing to the resili¬ ent characteristic of the material, and the distance A between the same 14, 15 is chosen, so that it at the insertion end 33A of the accommodation 33 is less than the thickness of the intended connected plate, for example about 15,8 ± 0,3 mm by use of for example fibre board with the thickness designa¬ tion 16 mm, but bigger about 16,2 ± 0,15 at the inner end 33B of the accomodation. Efficient clamping of ledge 5 to plate 6, 7 is achieved thereby.
Further holding is achieved owing to the faste¬ ning flanges 18 exhibiting barbs 17 acting in the extraction direction 49, which flanges are insertable in direction against a intended plate's edge surface 50 to be inserted in a somewhat narrower slot 51 than the width of the fastening flange 18, preferably also with glue etc received in the slot 51.
The invention enables many possib lities to achieve both functional and strong furniture with simple means as well as be able to transport the furniture in compact units in unmounted state. However the invention is not limited to that described above and the embodiment shown in the drawings, but the invention can be varied within the scope of the patent claims, without abandoning the inventive concept.
