Abstract

The hot-air balloon is deflated after landing not by means of a top valve, as is normally the case, but rather by being tipped over using a top cord attached to the suspended seat. The hot-air entrance port is used in deflating and is enlarged considerably. During the filling and heating-up process the envelope is held down by ground attachments to the top cord and lower border of the envelope.

Description

HEISSLUFTBALLONHOT AIR BALLOON
The known hot air balloons have special problems when landing if at least one of the following conditions applies:
- Einmannbesetzung,- one-man cast,
- Luftzug oder gar Wind,- draft or even wind,
- keine Hilfe von Drittpersonen,- no help from third parties,
- Hindernisse wie Bäume oder Gebäude im Landeterrain.- Obstacles such as trees or buildings in the landing terrain.
The reason for the problems is based on the fact that the landing weight is too small due to the still existing lift. It loses all grip on the ground and often cannot prevent it from drifting away and the resulting danger or damage to the balloon. Due to the slow and incomplete tapping process with the top valve, the risk of grinding landings is very high!
It is therefore an object of the invention to provide a balloon which can be emptied immediately and completely when landing, which ensures a safe landing in any terrain and even in side winds, even if a single crew member has to make the landing all by himself.
This object is achieved by a balloon according to the patent claims.
The invention is explained using a hot air balloon. In principle, however, it is suitable for any lifting gas that does not have to be recovered at the end of a flight, but can be abandoned (at least in an emergency).
The invention is explained below on the basis of a preferred exemplary embodiment:
Figures 1 + la show in side view a hot air balloon with an envelope H, a seat frame, a burner as a hot air generator and with a top line T. Burner and seat are attached to the envelope by a support structure. The previously usual top opening is replaced by side valves. These enable, among other things, a safer descent with a slight ride, instead of turning when using a single side valve or a pair of swirls. This type of landing is particularly suitable for light winds. On the other hand, when the wind is completely calm and the landing direction is exactly vertical, it is sufficient to switch off the burner or reduce its output.
Figuren 2 + 2a zeigen die Ballonhülle von Unten.Figures 2 + 2a show the balloon envelope from below.
According to the invention, tabs L are arranged on the lower part of the casing. If there are four such tabs, the segments S of the sheath located between them can release the desired balloon cross-section when it tilts over, which enables a momentary deflation, so that the buoyancy is immediately eliminated. This means that the pilot can safely release his seat (by means known per se) when landing. The topline T and preferably also the burner are attached to the seat frame or basket. The preferred attachment of the topline to the seat frame or basket ensures in any case timely tilting and emptying of the balloon envelope. In flight operations, the carrier gas essentially acts on the upper half of the shell and the tabs L are exposed to only slight stress. As a rule, however, they are left to protrude laterally, which gives the balloon a special optical characteristic. After tilting the balloon, however, the lifting gas acts on the interior of the tabs. As a result, the tabs are inflated immediately, so that the segments S are also subjected to the carrier gas - diverge in such a way that the desired cross section of the casing is released. The buoyancy only relies on the opening of the tabs and segments and therefore no longer on lifting the casing. This falls completely empty on the floor under its own weight and can be recovered on the spot.
The dangerous landing in strong winds becomes relatively safe because the wind pressure in combination with the suction on the leeward side accelerates the emptying of the balloon envelope. (13 to 15 seconds!)
