Abstract

A device for mechanically anchoring dentures consisting of a casing structure (1) made of a hollow cylinder, wherein a piston (3) can slide. The piston is composed of three sections of differing diameter (4, 5, 6), the smallest one having a rounded head (7) intended to latch into the opposing structures for denture fixation. The sliding piston can be operated by a button (10) connected to the piston by a screw (9) through a slot (2).

Description

UNIVERSAL ANCHORING DEVICE FOR DENTURES
This the invention of an anchoring device for dentures with both simple and high quality plates.
At the moment problems of esthetics and retention are covered by a specially made hook, which has to cope with the four forces operating on the denture in the mouth:
- load
- retention
- overturning
- transversal
This hook can cope with all the above forces, but for retention except in cases where well developed, shaped and positioned teeth are undercut.
Apart from these limitations, these hooks are ugly in all cases because they require vestibular gills to keep the denture in place.
The aim of the invention is to overcome the above failings with a universal anchoring device for dentures, which, to fulfill its role, is combined with the Nelly-Martinez hook without the vestibular gill. In substance, the main advantage of this invention lies in the fact that this universal anchoring device, which is like a latch, keeps the denture in place while the
Nelly-Martinez hook deals the forces of load.
The other forces are also dealt with by these two anchoring devices.
Thanks to improved retention and esthetics, provided by this combination, the simple plate can be used in many more cases.
The considerable advantages of the invention can be described thus:
- It needs little occluded gum space to be effective, about 4mm instead of the 8mm normally required.
- The denture is very easy to fit on
- Its retentive strength is greater than any other existing fixing device and moreover its effectiveness does not diminish with the passing of time
- Taking out the denture is not traumatic
To conclude, compared to the hook on plates, it is more retentive, and aesthetically pleasing, less traumatic when taking out and masticating. The invention is described in greater detail in the following and in the diagrams.
Fig. 1 is an exploded view of the components which make up the universal anchoring device for dentures.
Fig. 2 shows the device with its part in operation.
Fig. 3 shows the side and front views.
Fig. 4 shows some variations of the device applied to a plate.
The diagrams show a universal anchoring device for dentures comprising the following:
- casing 1, made up of a hollow cylinder with an
ellipsoidal shaped slit 2;
- piston 3 made up of differently sized cylinders 4, 5 and 6, one inside the other with the smallest one having a rounded head 7; cylinder 4 has a cylindrical threaded hole 8;
- screw 9 inserted into hole 8 and slit 2 to block the parts;
- parallelepipedal runner button 10 one side of which is curved 11 (the opposite side holds the head of screw 9) and matches perfectly casing cylinder 1; the screw in the runner button moves along slit 2 whether the piston 3 is either in or out;
- hole 15 m three concentric cylindrical cavities
12, 13 and 14, in button 10, to contain the head
of screw 9, spring 16 and the middle part of the
screw.
The universal anchoring device for dentures operates and is put into operation as follows: - conjunction screw 9, threaded at the end, fits into hole 15 through the first cavity 12, fits into spring 16 and goes through the smallest cavity 14.
- The threaded end if the screw goes past the slit in
the casing and screws into the threaded hole in
piston 3 that meets up with the slit and compresses spring 16. This compression causes friction between button 10, casing 1 and piston 3. The more the

Figure imgf000006_0002
runner button operates, is polished shiny.
When the plate, shown in figure 3, is inserted into the mouth, the patient can push the end of the piston onto and away from the anchor tooth by pushing button 10 towards the centre and away from the centre respectivelly . The technitian uses a bush to mount the device accuratelly onto the plate. For practical purposes the casing is a 7.5mm long cylinder with an external diameter of 3mm and an internal diameter of 2.5mm.
Slit 2 starts 2mm from the distal end and stops 1.5mm from the mesial end; it is 4mm long and 1mm wide.
Piston 3 has a rounded head with a radies of 0.5mm, and is 9mm long in total. The piston is made up of cylinder
4, which has a diameter of 2 and is 4.5mm long, inside which there is another cylinder with a diameter of 1.6mm and 2mm long, and the end cylinder 6 which is 1mm in diameter and 2mm long.
2mm from the distal end there is a cylindrical threaded hole with a diameter of 1mm and 2mm long.
Screw 9 which screws into hole 8 and runs along slit 2 in casing 1 is a 4mm long cylinder and is 1mm in diameter; the last 2mm are threaded.
The scrrw has a round head 0.5mm thick and 1mm in diameter the groove is 0.4mm deep.
Runner button 10 is parallelepidedal, 5mm long, 2.5mm thick and 2.6mm high; there is a 2mm diameter circular hole made up of three cylindrical cavities 12, 13, 14 which are 2.6mm high in total; the first cavity 12, containing the head of the screw is 2mm in diameter and 0.5mm high; the second cavity, containing spring 16 and the upper part of the body of the screw, is 1.5mm in diameter and 1.5mm high; third cavity 14 which contains the middle part of the screw is 0.5mm high and 1.1mm wide.
The spring is a 3.5mm long steel wire; the spirals are 1.5mm in diameter and the wire is 0.35mm thick.

Claims

1) Universal anchoring device for dentures with both simple
and high quality plates, operating together with the
Nelly-Martinez hook and without vestibular gills. It is made up of the followings components:
- casing 1, made up of a hollow cylinder with an ellipsoidal shaped slit.
- piston 3 made up of 3 differently sized cylinders
4, 5, 6 one in inside the other and the thinnest one having a rounded head 7; cylinder 4 has a cylindrical threaded hole 8.
- screw 9 which fits into hole 8 and slit 2 to block the moving parts.
- parallelepipedal runner button 10, one side holding
the head of screw 9 and the opposite side curved to match perfectly casing cylinder 1; the screw in the runner button moves along slit 2 whether piston 3 is in or out. - hole 15 composed of three concentric cylindrical cavities 12 ,13, 14 in button 10, to contain head of screw 9, spring 16 and the middle part of the screw.
2) A device, as in claim 1, which by pushing the runner
button distally and mesially, the patient can push a
piston into and out of an anchor tooth respectively.
3) A device, as in claim 1, which is characterized by the fact that the threaded end of the screw 9 passes through the slit 2 in casing 1 and screws into threaded hole 8 in piston 3 that appears in the slit so causing spring 16 to compress and produce friction between button 10, casing 1, and piston 3.
4) A device, as in Claim 1, in which the surfaces of casing 1 at the sides of slit 2, where the runner button slides, is polished shiny.
