Description

"A UNIVERSAL TOOL FOR AN EXTERNAL TURNING SYSTEM"
The present invention concerns a universal tool for lathe and similar machines for performing an external turning, comprising a monolithic tool body having also the functio of a tool carrying an insert and a cylindical attack of t kind VDI DIN 69880 for the mounting on the tool carrying turret lathe of the lathe.
In the external turning system lathes are used having a rotating spindle and a tool carrying turret lathe to which a plurality of universal bodies carrying tools may be fix¬ ed, each provided with a tool of different kind, with the possibility for the turner to make the turret lathe rotate for choosing the most suitable tool for the present work¬ ing.
Tools consisting of a universal, tool carrying body are al ready well known; said body may be fixed to said turret la the by means of a cylindrical attack of the kind VIN DIN 69880, to which an insert carrying tool must be fixed by means of blocking screws that keep the tool in the desired position inside an apposite housing.
Said housing makes the tool carrying body weaker, and the¬ refore it may break due to crashes or fatigue.
Furthermore, the blocking screws allow only the longitudi¬ nal or transversal sliding of the insert carrying tool for
SUBSTITUTE SHEET allowing the turner to provide for the regulation of the tool machine.
Also other systems for the blocking of the insert carrying tool to the tool carrying body are known, but all are cha¬ racterized in that the tool and the universal tool carry¬ ing body are materially separated, and therefore they don't provide any guarantee for the absolute stability of the tool's position and furthermore they force the turner to make the tool, that has a resistant section smaller than the tool carrying body, to project from said tool carrying body, with the possibility of creating vibrations that may cause damage to the working precision as well as for the life of the insert or of the tool.
Each time the turner inserts the tool into the universal body he must adjust the lathe again, because the position of the tool is changed with respect to the precedent work¬ ing; he must make sure that the end of the insert does not touch the frame of the tool machine and he must adjust the outlet direction of the cooling liquid, moving the position of the nozzle provided on the universal tool carrying body so that the jet always gets onto the insert.
Finally, the system for blocking the tool to the tool car- ring body imposes to the latter considerable dimensions, so that it won't be possible to completely exploit the hori-
SUBSTITUTESHEET zontal sliding possibility of the turret lathe during work ing, and furthermore causes the weight on the turret to in crease thus reducing the rotation speed thereof and causin imprecαsions in the placing of said turret which is subjec to a greater inertia, with a consequent lower duration of said rotation system.
It is the aim of the present invention to eliminate above mentioned inconveniences. U
The aim is reached by means of the present invention, as it is characterized in the attached claims, by realizing a u- niversal tool for external turning systms, having at the same time the functions of a tool carrying body and of an "• insert carrying tool, realized in a monolithic block to which the cylindrical attack of the kind VDI DIN 69880 may be fixed for the mounting on the tool carrying turret lathe.
The advantages obtained by means of the present invention mainly consist in that the realization in on single monoli¬ thic block of the tool carrying body and of the insert car¬ rying tool allows to obtain a resistant section of the tool of any dimension, even if reducing the maximum encumbrance dimensions of the object and therefore its weight; it al¬ lows the turret to move horizontally for a greater space; it allows to perform heavier workings and to make vibra-
SUBSTITUTE SHEET tions practically disappear, which assures a greater work¬ ing precision, a greater superficial finishing of the pie¬ ces and a longer life of the insert and of the tool; it al lows to reduce the preparation time for the machine because it it not necessary to adjust the position of the nozzle from which he cooling liquid comes, while one single pre¬ paration of the machine is requested in the two directions - longitudinal and transversal - with respect to the work¬ ing axis of the piece, and this regulation remains in the time as the dimension of the tool does not vary; it allows the replacing of the single monolithic block should there be damages and the re-utilization of the cylindrical at- tak; finally, it allows - by means of an unequal blocking of the screws that fix the monolithic block to the cylin- drical attack - to adjust the position of the tool in ro¬ tating sense to the axis of the cylindrical attack, bring¬ ing the same to the centre of the spindle of the tool ma¬ chine.
The present invention will be described more in detail he¬ reinbelow, according to the attached drawings in which a preferred embodiment is shown.
Figure 1 shows an axonometric view of a universal tool for an external turning system with a cylindrical at¬ tack of the kind VDI DIN 69880 according to the present invention.
SUBSTITUTESHEET Figure 2 shows a front view of the universal tool without the cylindrical attack.
Figure 3 shows a top view of the cylindrical attack of th kind VIN DIN 69880.
Relating now to the details of the figures, the universal tool for the external turnin system consists of:
- a monolithic tool body 1;
- a cylindrical attack 2 of the kind VDI DIN 69880.
According to the present invention the monolithic tool bod 1, having at the same time the function of tool carrier an of insert carrier, is realized as a single prismatic block is provided with a housing 3 for carrying the insert havin a different shape according to the insert to be housed; with a hole 4, with a stop plane 5, for housing the cylin¬ drical attack 2; with two screws for adjusting and fixing the monolithic tool body 1 to the cylindrical blocking at- tack 2; with a nozzle 7 for the outlet of the cooling li¬ quid.
Said monolithic tool body 1 assures the Constance of the distance between the resting plane on the turret lathe car¬ rying the tools and the end of the insert and between the axis of the cylindrical attack 2 and the end of said in¬ sert, thus giving the turner the advantage of performing
SUBSTITUTE SHEET the adjusting of the tool machine, in the two - longitudi- nal and transversal - directions with respect to the work¬ ing axis only once, and in a constant manner during in ti- me, until the insert or the same tool are damaged.
In case of damage of said monolithic tool body 1, it may b separately replaced with respect to the cylindrical attack 2, that may be re-used.
The cylindrical attack 2 is of the kind VDI and according to rules DIN 69880, and is provided with a collar 8 that creates a resting surface for the stop plane 5 with which hole 4 is provided, into which it will get inserted,
Said cylindrical attack 2 is kept in position inside said hole 4 by means of the blocking of the two screws 6, that are going to perform a pressure onto the plane base of the two shells 9.
An unequal blocking of said screws 6 allows the monolithic tool body 1 to rotate slightly with respect to the axis of the cylindrical attack 2 and therefore gives the turner the possibility to adapt or bring back the tool to the centre of the spindle of the machine.
The outlet 7 for the cooling liquid is connected with a duct internal to the monolithic tool body 1 that gets into
SUBSTITUTESHEET correspondence with the outlet hole of the liquid provided on the tool carrying turret lathe; it does not need any ad justing of the outlet direction of the jet as the length o the monolithic tool body 1 is unvariable.
