Abstract

The invention provides a wiper blade (10) having a blade body (12) and an abrasive added to the blade body. The blade body (12) may have a homogeneous structure and may be constructed of an elastomer polymer, such as EPDM rubber or natural rubber. The abrasive may be cerium oxide, aluminum oxide, ferrous oxide, titanium dioxide, silicon carbide, boron nitride, silicon nitride, zirconium oxide or diamond dust. The preferred abrasive is generally spherically-shaped cerium oxide particles and the abrasive preferably may be added to the blade body (12) by dispersing the particles in the blade body (12) prior to forming the blade (10). The invention also provides an improved process of forming such wiper blades (10).
