Abstract

In order to facilitate the restoration of balconies of the kind comprising concrete slabs (2) projecting from the building body (1), coffers (3) are used to enclose such concrete slabs (2). For fastening of the coffers (3) to the concrete slab (2) one upper tie rod (4) and one lower tie rod (5) are secured in the concrete slab (2) in the area thereof closest to the building body (1). The tie rods (4, 5) project from the building body (1) in the area of the joint between two coffers (3) positioned one on either side of the concrete slab (2), and externally thereof they are interconnected by means of a first vertical stay (9). A second vertical stay (10) extends from the lower tie rod (5) downwardly, alongside the building body (1). A pressure stay (11) extends between the second vertical stay (10) and the lower tie rod (5). The first vertical stay (9) is provided with a securement plate (13) bridging the joint between two coffers (3) and arranged to retain the latter in position in abutment against the building body (1).

Description

An Improved Balcony
The subject invention concerns an improved balcony of the kind comprising an elongate cantilever-mounted concrete slab projecting from the body of the building. In order to repair balconies of this kind the concrete of which has aged or become damaged, box-shaped coffers have been in use for some time having one open side facing the concrete slab by means of which the coffer is threaded over the slab and is then anchored to the building wall or body. In this manner, the concrete slab is enclosed by the coffer which forms a new balcony exterior. This arrangement simplifies the repair work considerably.
When the balconies to be repaired with the aid of this technology, are long or even extremely long^ e.g. in the case of fire-escape balconies and the like, several coffers must be applied in the form of adjoining sections.
The purpose of the subject invention is to provide a suitable device for securement of coffers to balconies of the latter type. The characterizing features of the invention appear from the appended claims. The invention will be described in closer detail in the following with reference to the accompanying drawings, wherein
Fig. 1 is a perspective broken view of a balcony fitted with a number of coffers anchored by means of a device in accordance with the invention, Fig. 2 is an end view of the device, and
Fig.3 is a vertical cross-sectional view along line III-III of Fig. 2 through a balcony slab with the device mounted thereon.
From the building wall or body 1 projects a concrete slab 2 so as to form an elongate balcony. The latter is presumed to be worn by age and to have partly lost its supporting capacity as a result of aging and moisture-induced damages. Instead of repairing the concrete slab 2 box-shaped coffers 3 are used, of the kind specified in the aforegoing having one open side by means of which the coffers are passed over the concrete slab 2 and moved into abutment against the building wall 1, so that the concrete slab 2 will be wholly enclosed in the interior of the coffers 3.
Normally, a balcony which has been badly damaged from exposure to the effects of wind and weather still retains its strength and stability in the area closest to the building wall 1. The device in accordance with the invention is conceived on the basis of knowledge of this phenomenon. The device comprises an upper tie rod 4 and a lower tie rod 5. The rods are secured to the concrete slab 2 by means of a red-interconnecting bolt 6 passing through the concrete slab in the area immediately externally of the building wall 1. The two tie rods 4, 5 are applied in the joint area between two coffers 3 on either side of the concrete slab 2. A pressure-relief plate 7 forms a support between the concrete slab 2 and the upper tie rod 4 at the place of securement of the latter. If required, a distance sleeve 8 or similar means could also be applied between the concrete slab 2 and the lower tie rod 5 at the place of securement of that rod.
In addition, the device comprises a first vertical stay 9 which interconnects the upper tie rod 4 and the lower tie rod 5 externally of the concrete slab 2, and a second vertical stay 10 extending downwardly from the lower tie rod 5 alongside the building wall 1. In addition, a pressure stay 11 extends between said second vertical stay 10 and the lower tie rod 5. Between the vertical stay 10 and the building wall 1 is arranged a pressure plate 12 which like the pressure-relief plate 7 serves as a support.
When two coffers 3 have been positioned, one on either side of a device constructed in accordance with the teachings of the invention, the coffers 3 are interconnected and anchored to the device by means of a securement plate 13 forming part of the device and being firmly secured to the vertical stay 9.
Owing to the device in accordance with the invention it becomes possible to restore damaged concrete balconies in an extremely easy and expedient manner. No mending or repair work on the concrete slab 2 proper need to be done. Nor is it any longer necessary to interfere with the building wall or body 1. The anchorage of the tie rods 4 a to the concrete slab 2 is quickly made as are also the operations o assembling and interconnecting the coffers 3 with the securement pl 13.
For improved appearance a covering slab 14 preferably is appl over the joint between two coffers 3.
The invention is not limited to the embodiment as described illustrated in the drawings but could be varied in several ways wit the scope of the appended claims. All stays and rods could have a configuration differing from that shown and also the securement mea of the tie rods 4, 5 could be made in another way.
