Abstract

A storing box in particular for storing of video cassettes and comprising a framework (1) which comprises a frame (5) with a pivoting lid (2). A protective cardboard sheet (4) is attachable to the frame (5) in such a way that a video cassette housed in the framework (1) is enclosed in the cardboard sheet (4) such that when the lid (2) is in closing position the cassette is well protected from humidity, dust and impacts.

Description

An Improved Box for Storing a Video Cassette
This invention relates to an improved box for storing video cassettes. Boxes of this kind have hitherto been manufactured from rigid plastics material and these boxes completely enclosed the cassette. Such boxes are difficult to handle and they are unnecessearily expensive due to the great amount of plastics material used for their manufacture. Boxes of this kind have also been manufactured from cardboard only but such boxes do not give sufficient protection. The present invention aims at overcoming the recited drawbacks and this goal has been achieved in the way indicated in the characterising clause of the main claim.
Other features of the invention are obvious from the subclaims.
The invention will now be described more in detail reference, being had to the drawings.
In the drawings:-
Figs. 1 and 2 show a first embodiment of the invention in two different views.
Figs. 3, 4, and 5 show in different perspective views the same embodiment with the protective cardboard sheet attached.
Figs. 6 and 7 show a second embodiment in two different, views.
Figs. 8, 9, and 10 show this second embodiment in different views with the cardboard protection sheet attached thereto, aιd
Figs. 11 and 12 show details of the box acording to the;; invention.
The framework 1 of the box, shown in Fig. 1, comprises -a frame 5 and a lid 2 pivotally attached thereto. The frame 5 is, provided with grooves 3 extending along three sides of the frame 5 such hat from the fourth side it is rendered possible to insert a protective cardboard sheet 4 with information about the video cassette in tjie box. The grooves 3 must then be dimensioned in such a way that the protective cardboard sheet 4 can be inserted rather easily; but be retained in the grooves 3 in the inserted position in such a, a that the cassette is protected from humidity and dust. The framework proper with the lid protects the cassette from blows and inpacts.
Figs. 3, 4, and 5 show the same cassette with the protective cardboard sheet 4 inserted. Fig. 3 shows the assembled box in one perspective view and Fig. 4 shows it in another view, while Fig. 5 shows the box in closed position. It is obvious from these three Figures that in spite of the little amount of the plastics material used for the manufacture of the framework, which is obvious from Figs. 1 and 2, there is obtained a closed box giving an unexpected good protection for the cassettes as can be seen in Figs. 3, 4, and 5. All necessary information about the contents of the box can be given on the protective cardboard sheet 4.
The embodiment shown in Figs. 6 and 7 comprises a framework having a frame 5 carrying two pivoted flaps 6 and 7 and a pivoted lid 8. For illustrating purposes the same embodiment is shown in another perspective view in Fig. 7. In Figs. 8, 9, and 10 the same embodiment is shown with the protective cardboard sheet 9 inserted. The box is shown in two different perspective views in Figs. 8 and 9. Fig. 10 shows the box according to this embodiment with the lid 8 in closed position. It is quite clear that also in this embodiment only a small amount of plastics material is required for the framework but nevertheless there is obtained a box giving the necessary protection to the video cassette. Furthermore, it is possible to replace the protective cardboard sheet shuch that the indication thereon always is in agreement with the contents of the box, when the cassette is replaced.
Fig. 11 shows more in detail how the protective cardbard sheet 9 has been inserted to abut against one flap 7. It is obvious from this view - shown on an enlarged scale - that in order to obtain an improved retaining of the framework 5 it is possible to provide it with a peg 10 for engagement in an aperture 11 in the protective cardboard sheet 9.
Fig. 11 illustrates the insertion of the protective carboard sheet 9 into the frame 5 with the lid 8 having a peg 12 for engagement in a corresponding aperture 13 in the frame 5. It is thus obvious that the embodiments described are well suited to fulfill the purposes aimed for with the invention, i.e. to create a box which is cheap to manufcture because it requires only a small amount of plastics material and which gives an excellent protection to the video cassette due to the protective cardboard sheet. Furthermore, the plastics framework proper can be used for many different video cassettes because when another cassette is put into the box the cardboard sheet with information about the cassette is easily replaced. The reduced weight of the box will in a remarkable way reduce the costs involved in the transport of the boxes.
The invention is in no way restricted to the embodiments described in the aforegoing but many modifications are possible within the scope of the appended claims. Thus, the possibilities for the retaining of the protective cardboard sheet to the plastics framework may be altered in many ways. The expression "cardboard sheet" should be understand to include rigid thin sheets, e.g. plastics coated cardboard, thin rigid plastics foil etc.

Claims

1. An improved box intended in particular for storing a video cassette, c h a r a c t e r i z e d by a framework (1) manufactured from rigid plastics material and comprising a frame (5) to which is pivotally attached a lid (2, 8) as well as means for retaining a protective cardboard sheet (4, 9) enclosing the video cassette.
2. An improved box as claimed in claim 1, c h a r a c t e r¬ i z e d by the fact that the retaining means comprise side walls projecting perpendiculary from the frame (5), said walls provided with grooves (3) for housing the edge portions of the cardboard sheet (4).
