Definitions

  • the invention relates to an adapter for connecting a compact discharge lamp to a household voltage via an electrical adapter circuit, the adapter being of the kind referred to in the first part of claim 1.
  • Such adapters with a two-part housing are previously known, e.g. from EP-A-179 473.
  • the assembly of the adapter, especially the electric circuit card and the associated components and terminals is greatly facilitated.
  • the circuit card can be secured by clamping between the two housing parts, thus avoiding separate fasteners for the circuit card.
  • the two housing parts are secured to each other by a snap locking coupling at the joint between the substantially cylindrical, outer wall portions of the two housing parts, the upper housing part having an internal flange with a circumferential ridge snapping into a cor ⁇ responding groove at the inside of the lower housing part.
  • a snap locking enables a very convenient and fast assembly of the two parts.
  • the locking is not quite safe, since unintentional or accidental forces may pull the housing halves apart from each other, the risk being increased in case the housing is heated, causing the plastic material to be softened ⁇ or upon aging of the material.
  • An object of the present invention is to improve an adapter as defined in the first part of claim 1, so that the two housing parts are held together effectively and safely in spite of a relatively simple and inexpensive structural design.
  • a further object is to provide a compact structure with relatively small dimensions.
  • Still another object is to provide a structure, which enables an easy and reliable mounting of one or more circuit cards .
