Abstract

Woodworking machine containing a headstock with spindle and a tailstock arranged on an extendable bed with two parallel beams on which guide a length carriage (I) which in turn guides on other carriage (II). Carriage (II) supports a swivelling up and down adjustable tool holder for tools and power tools. The headstock and tailstock are swivelling 360° and can together with a drive roller, a driven roller and a sanding belt be used as a power sander. The headstock supports a pivoting, laterally adjustable motor plate lockable by means of a lever which is guided in slots indicating the speeds. The transmission is done by a flat belt which also functions for stropping.

Description

Woodworking machine
The present invention relates to woodworking machines according to accompanying claims.
At present known woodworking machine in particular wood turning lathes with attachment for guided copy equipments (ex. SE422758) have several disadvantages as listed below.
1. They are built as a separate length-limited unit and are not extendable and must be mounted on a lathe by means of hand tools and when shifting from length to cross copying once again hand tools are needed.
2. When copying is interrupted in order to hand turn special parts of a workpiece the attachments are in the way for the handrest and turning tools.
3. When fitted for cross copying the attachments are projecting from the lathe bed.
4. The length and cross slides of the attachments are inert, that means something like a lever is needed for the movements. Thereby the hand feeling for sensitive workpieces disappears.
5. Their toolholder cannot be turned radially (E) in order to obtain the best cutting angle.
6. They cannot be used for radius turning and their tool holder cannot be turned 360° horizontally (D).
7. They cannot be used for Slotting, Spiral and Copy moulding.
It is the object of the present invention to overcome the above mentioned disadvantages and provide an improved woodworking machine. The new and characterizing for the machine according to the in¬ vention is disclosed in the accompanying claims mainly No. 1. Due to a special advantageous design of the bed and the ontop of it running carriage, quick setting - from length to cross copying - is obtained (Fig. 4, 5), and with an extension added to the bed the copy length is extended too. Because the carriage is running directly on the bed it is not in the way for a tool rest and hand tools, which easily can be fitted onto the tool holder.
Another advantageous design is the horizontal tool holder in combination with the smooth running carriage which gives hand- feeling when copy turning or moulding.
The invention will now be more fully described with reference to accompanying drawings showing no limited embodiments.
Fig. 1 shows an embodiment of the woodworking machine according to the invention. Fig. 2 shows a cross sectional view of the bed and the carriage running on said bed. Fig. 3 a cross sectional view showing said carriage another carriage holding a toolholder. Fig. 4 shows an embodiment according to the invention with the carriage in position for length copying and Fig. 5 the carriage in position for cross copying. Fig. 6 shows both the headstock and the tailstock set in 90 position and supplied with a drive roller and a driven roller for belt sanding. Fig. 7 shows the carriage, the headstock, the tailstock in combination with a handrouter set for the barley twist.
The machine frame, - the bed consists of two beams 10 of rectangular tubes which are screwed together with the legs 12 made of rectangul r tube which in turn are screwed together with their feet of rectangular tube 14. On top of said beams are screwed cold finished steel plates, in .such a way that the screws are not seen from outside. The feet are -supplied with leveling screws 18.
The cast headstock with the spindle 20, the motor 22, the pulleys 24, 26 are together a drive unit 9, which is clamped to the bed by means of the clamp plate 28. During the clamping the center line is orientated to the front side of the bed. The motor plate 30 is pivoting on shaft 32 and adjustable sideways. Said motor plate is adjustable sideways and locked by means of a lever 34.
The transmission, made by means of a flat belt 36, the different diameters of the pulleys and the side movement of the motor in combination results in many speeds which are indicated by the lever's position at the front plate 40.
The thin flat belt 36 is covered, on the outside, with preferably leather and grinding paste for stropping.
The motor 22 is covered by a shell 38 and a hinged guard 42. The cast tailstock 44 is supplied with a quill 46 which is stepless turnable and lockable and has a quick setting device 48. Said tailstock is clamped to the bed by means of the clamp plate 28 whereby the center line is orientated to the front of the bed. Both the headstock and the tailstock can be turned 360° but ar fixed by a pin when in-line in neutral position.
The extention 50 of the bed is assembled by the same beam 10 and steel plate 8 as the machine frame, and is screwed to said machine frame by means of holders 52. The extension is hold together by a distance piece 54.
The cast carriage I for length movement "A" is orientated against the front side of the bed by means of ball bearings 58 fitted on eccentrical pins 60. The length movement can be blocked by means of a brake 64, which consists of two brass sleeves 65 and a locking screw 66.
The cast carriage II 68 is orientated against one of the beams 69 on -carriage I by means of ball bearings 70 fitted on eccentrical pins -60. The cross movement "B" of said carriage II can be blocked by means of a brake 76 which consists of two brass sleeves 65 and a locking screw 66. Horizontally said carriage is guided by ball bearings 78. The through hole in said carriage II is bearing a tool holder 80 which can be turned 360° "D" and locked by means of a screw 82. the tool holder 80 supports tool holder 84 which can be moved up and downwards "C" and locked by screw 86.
The horizontal hole in tool holder 84 holds a tool 88 with fine adjustment "F". Said tool 88 can be turned "E" and moved forward and backwards "G" and locked by a screw 90. At the front end of said tool 88 a turning bit 92 is fitted. The fine adjustment for said bit is done by turning the handle 94.

Claims
1. Woodworking machine adjustable to a plurality of machining operations containing a headstock (9) with spindle (20) adjustable for adaption to respective machining and a similar adjustable tailstock (44) arranged on a bed of two parallel beams (10) c h a r a c t e r i z e d in, that on said beams is arrange one, as a first carriage (A) formed length slide which on one beam is carried, vertically and horizontally, by means of ball bearing (58, 62) mounted on adjustable eccentric pins
(60) and on the other side carried only vertically by means of ball bearings (62) mounted on eccentric pins (60), and that said first carriage is formed as a bed with two transverse beams on top, which carries one, as a second carriage (B) formed cross slide, which is carried in similar way by means of ball bearings (70, 78) mounted on eccentric pins (60).
2. Woodworking machine according to claim 1 c h a r a c t e r i z e d in, that said beams (10) consist of profiles, preferably hollowed square steel, on which top are screwed longitudinal guide means (8) preferably cold finished steel, whereby said guide means are wider than said profiles.

Woodworking machine according to claim l c h a r a c t e r i z e d in, that the second carriage (B) is provided with a round cylindrical, - transversely to said beams top surface, - through hole, determined to carry a swivelling, up and down adjustable and lockable holder (80) to carry a hand tool or a power tool.
4. Woodworking machine according to claim 2 c h a r a c t e r i z e d in, that said holder (80) and said second carriage (B) are supplied with means of indication of angular adjustment.

Woodworking machine according to at least one of the above claims c' h a r a c t e r i z e d in, that said headstock is swivelling horizontally preferably 360°, and/or that said headstock and tailstock are adjustable with their axis, square with the beams of the bed, whereby a sanding belt can be mounted on to a drive roller on the spindle and a driven roller on the tailstock.

Woodworking machine according to at least one of the above claims c h a r a c t e r i z e d in, that said tool holder (84) has a preferable round hole, square and centrical with the axis of rotation of the tool holder, which hole is supplied with means for locking (90), and is determined to carry a hand tool or a power tool.
7. Woodworking machine according to claim 2 c h a r a c t e r i z e d in, that said beams (10) are extendable by means of an overlap joint.
8. Woodworking machine according to claims 1 and 5 c h a r a c t e r- i z e d in, that said headstock supports a motor plate (30) which is pivoting, laterally adjustable and lockable by a lever (34) and that this lever is guided in slots (40) indicating the speeds.
