Abstract
The present invention relates to a method and an apparatus for generating electrical energy with the aid of stagnant water. The stagnant water (1) is brought to fall freely (at 2), whereby the thus released energy is used for raising water to a certain height (at 6). The water raised is then brought to fall freely (at 7) against rotor means (8) for generating electrical energy.
Description
Method and means for generating electric energy from stag¬ nant water
The present invention relates to a method of generating electric power using stagnant water and apparatus for performing the method.
Today electric current is transported over very long distances, also to very far away places, such as e.g. islands in the archi- pelago and sparsely built-up areas. There are tests running with alternative energy sources, such as wind mills. These, however, suffer form certain drawbacks, such as high construction and maintenance costs and they are totally dependant on the blowing of the wind. An other disadvantage is that a high noice is gene- rated every time the rotor blades pass the mast.
Further the intention is to build oil and coal fired power plants in exchange for nuclear plants, which as such are a clean source of energy, as long as no disturbances occur. The problems of polution, however, at oil and coal fired power plants cause great inconveniences.
Therefor a need exists for creating "clean" power plants, desig¬ ned for large scale production as well as for small consumers, and then especially in sparsely built-up and sensitive areas.
The object of the present invention is thus to provide a method of generating electric energy with the aid of stagnant water, which causes a minimum of influence on the environment, which is non-expensive in production and which is also suitable for small consumers, as well as an apparatus for performing the method ac¬ cording to the invention.
This is achieved with the method according to the invention, which is characterized in that the stagnant water is brought to fall freely, whereby the energy released thereby is used for raising water to a certain height, and in that the raised water
then is brought to fall freely against rotor means -for genera¬ ting electrical energy.
The apparatus for performing the method according to the inven¬ tion comprises first conduit means for falling freely, pumping means, arranged to be driven by said freely falling water, se¬ cond conduit means for water being raisad by the pumping means, third conduit means through which the raised water fall freely, and rotor means for generating the electric energy.
Further features, advantages and objects of the present inven¬ tion will appear from the following detailed description refer¬ ring to the accompanying drawing, in which
the figure illustrates a plant for performing the method according to the invention.
The invention will now be described more in detail with refe¬ rence to the embodiment of a plant which is illustrated in the figure and in which the stagnant water is designated with the reference numeral 1.
With the wording " stagnant water" is meant oceans, lakes, ri¬ vers with a slow flow, dams, etc., i.e. water reservoirs which cannot be used for conventionel water power plants. One object of the invention is thus to avoid the strong environmental dis¬ turbances caused by the erection of water power plant dams.
Water is transferred, preferably though self-sucking from the stagnant water, eventually after a first filling operation, to a first conduit means 2 and is brought to fall freely to at least 1 m below the surface of the stagnant water. The energy released hereby is used in a pumping means 3, which might be an ejector, for the raising of water, which is transferred to the pumping means through the conduit, which is hinted at with the arrow 4. The water is raised through the conduit means 5 to a basin 6. The water is brought to fall from the basin 6 through a third conduit means 7 against rotor means 8 for the generation of
electrical energy. The rotor means should advantageously be pla¬ ced so that the water through gravity will be transferred back to the water reservoir.
Preferably several pumping means are arranged in parallel in or¬ der to increase the capacity.
Further, the water is preferably raised to at least 5 m above the surface of the stagnant water.
The heights of the fall and raise are determined and chosen in view of the actual use of the invention as well as the number and the dimensions of the pumping means.
