Abstract
The employment of several scissors on top of each other as a lifting mechanism for work platforms is well-known. The scissors consist of three or more scissor members per scissor. Stacking several of these scissors on top of each other for greater working heights produces a laterally insufficiently rigid mechanism whereby the workability becomes a problem when sideways forces have to be exerted from the platform. The invention provides for two scissor members only per scissor (1a + 1b; 2a + 2b; etc.). The connections between the scissor members (4) and (5) are such that the transmission of force results in a pre-tension whereby these connections become play-free and the scissor mechanism more rigid, whilst moreover the use of only two scissor members per scissor gives a greater lateral rigidity in relation to the strength, compared with the well-known scissors.
Description
SCISSOR LIFT MECHANISM FOR WORK PLATFORMS
The invention concerns a lifting device with two or more scissors, where each scissor consists of only two scissor members of closed cross-section connected pivotally in the middle, whilst the connection between the extremities of the scissor members of the scissors themselves is identical to the middle connection of a scissor in which one extremity of a scissor member of the lowest scissor is pivotally connected to the lower frame, and one extremity of the other scissor member of the lowest scissor is pivotally and slidably connected to the lower frame and one extremity of a scissor member of the uppermost scissor is pivotally connected to the upper frame and one extremity of the other scissor member of the uppermost scissor is pivotally and slidably connected to the upper frame. The lifting excitation is provided by a driving device fitted between and connected to the lower frame and to one scissor member of the lowest scissor.
Specific to the invention is the employment of only two scissor members of closed cross-section per scissor and the place and manner in which the scissor members are pivotally connected to each other.
The transfer of force from one scissor member to the other continually occurs via the pivoted connection at the extremities and in the middle of the scissor members, by torque introduction on the scissor member cross-section. This force introduction results in a pre-tension in the pivoted connection points, whereby a play-free connection and therefore a laterally very rigid and stable scissor lifting mechanism is achieved, employable in mobile work platforms.
The invention will now be illustrated using a few diagrams. Fig. 1 shows the erected scissor lift mechanism, where the work platform is shown with supports as an illustration and the framework is depicted as a self-propelled lower chassis. Fig. 2 shows the pivoted connection between the scissor members.
Fig. 1 depicts a scissor lift mechanism with three scissors 1,
2, and 3 where each scissor consists of only two scissor members pivotally connected in the middle [4]; scissor 1 consists of the scissor members la and lb, scissor 2 of the scissor members 2a and 2b, and scissor 3 of the scissor members 3a and 3b.
Connection 5 between the scissor member extremities of two connecting scissors is also pivoted and identical to connection
4.
Extremity 6 of scissor member la of the lowest scissor 1 is pivotally connected to lower frame 10, whilst extremity 7 of the other scissor member lb of the lowest scissor 1 is pivotally and slidably connected to lower frame 10.
A driving device 12, here depicted as a lifting cylinder, fitted between and connected to lower frame 10 and to one scissor member of the lowest scissor 1 provides the lifting force.
Extremity 8 of scissor member 3b of the uppermost scissor 3 is * pivotally connected to work platform 11, and extremity 9 of the other scissor member 3a of the uppermost scissor 3 is pivotally and slidably connected to the work platform.
Fig. 2 shows the transverse cross-section of the pivoted connections 4 and 5 of fig. 1 of the scissor members of closed profile cross-section.
The invention of this connection aims at simplicity in manufacture and mounting.
Manufacture : the scissor members la, 2a, and 3a are processed only once: hole 13 is drilled, after which the pre-worked axle
15 is fitted into the scissor member and is locked in place with tack welds 19 to the outside of the scissor member.
The scissor members lb, 2b and 3b are also processed only once; hole 14 is drilled, after which the pre-worked tube 16, provided with the injected bearing tubes 17, are fitted into the scissor member and locked via tack weld 20 to the outside of the scissor arm. No further processing follows. Mounting: the scissor members lb, 2b and 3b, complete with tube
16 with bearing tubes 17, are pushed over the axle 15 of scissor members la, 2a and 3a and secured by a locking washer 18, after which the pivoted connection is complete.

Said mechanism is provided with a driving element, connected to the lower frame and to one scissor member of the lowest scissor.
2. Scissor lift mechanism described in claim 1, with the characteristic that the pivoted centre connection between the scissor members of a scissor and the pivoted connection of the scissor member extremities of a scissor with the adjoining scissor members extremities of the following scissor is built with an axle locked via tack welding in the one scissor member on the outside in a pre-formed hole, connected to and pivotable into a pre-formed tube, which is locked via tack welding on the outside, in another scissor member. The tube is fitted with bearings in a pre-formed hole, and the holes are made in the side walls of the scissor member profile and the connecting scissor members are laterally fixed with respect to each other by a locking washer.
