Abstract

Device for electric guitar consisting of a supporting core (15) around which body (12), neck (1) and pickups (18) are mounted. Electronics and body might be replaced while the guitar is tuned up. The unit features a neck mounting bracket (4) with a an axle (10; 21) and an adjustment screw (8) with which the neck angle and thus the strings angle to the body can be adjusted. The neck (1) with the neck mounting bracket (4) can be removed by loosening the screws (2) and removing the axle (10; 21).

Description

DEVICE FOR ELECTRIC GUITAR.
The invention is a device for electric guitar consisting of a central unit on which parts are mounted that together constitute an electric guitar.
Most electric guitars are built around a solid woodbody and delivered from factory completely assembled. Today however, the users of these instruments have individual demands requiring the service of a craftsman. The owner of the instrument might also wish to exchange components and customize body design. This have become a major trend and the market is flooded with accessories and interchangeable parts. Modifications done by the user will often result in decreased payability.
The invention is a metal core around which body, neck and electronics are mounted. Electronics and body parts are
interchangeable while the guitar is tuned up. String action can be adjusted by means of a necktilt arrangement while the guitar is tuned, whereas on standard guitar neckremoval might be
necessary to achieve this. The invention also makes it possible to disassemble the instrument for compact transport. After
reassembling, the instrument will need no further adjustment. The invention uses industry standard necks, bridges and electronics. The user can without affecting the playability of the instrument exchange the body sides with others for instance selfmade ones in any shape. Means necessary to achieve the characteristics:
To obtain these properties the construction is executed with a very stiff metal core that holds the siring pressure without the sides attached. On one end there is a neckmountingbracket, that allows both neck angle adjustment and fast dismounting of neck. In the core sits an adjustment screw that tilts the neck a few degrees rotationwise around the neckmountingbracket axle, while the string pressure forces the neckmountingbracket against the end of the adjustment screw. The core features tapped holes for the mounting of bridge and bodysides and for securing the neckmountingbracket. To obtain good stability, sustain and payability, there are fine contact planes and solid bolts connecting neck,
neckmountingbracket, core and bodysides to each other.
The invention will in the following be explained closer with reference to the drawing, where fig. 1 is showing the complete central unit with the adjustable neck and neckmountingbracket 4 tilted up exaggeratedly for the purpose of illustration. Bodysides 12 are dismounted. fig. 2 is showing the central unit partly cross sectioned with neck 1. strings 16, bridge 19 and pickups 18 mounted. fig. 3 is showing a second version of the neckmountingbracket 4 and fork 7 assembled with neck 1. fig. 4 is showing the same version as in fig. 3 in an exploded view. The central unit consists of a core 15 with a fork end 7, a
neckmountingbracket 4, an axle 10, lockingbolts 2 and one adjustmentscrew 8. In the second version of figure 3 and 4 there is a combined axle and locingbolt 21 The description following deals first with figure 1 and 2.
On the central unit are mounted neck 1 to the neckmountingbracket 4 by means of screws 6 and axle 10. The neck 1 with the
neckmountingbracket mounted can be disconnected by loosening the lockingbolts 2 and pulling out the axle 10. The
neckmountingbracket 4 is mounted to the fork 7 with the axle 10 so that the neck can be tilted against the adjustmentscrew 8 coming out from a threaded hole in the core 15. The neckmountingbracket 4 is locked in the desired position by means of the lockingbolts 2 which are placed in threaded holes 3 in the neckmountingbracket 4. Drilling 13 are for mounting of a commercial standard
stringlocking and pitch-variation bridge 19. Threaded holes 14 are for mounting side pieces 12a, 12b with bolts 20, or with other suitable locking bolts. By loosening bolts 2 when the instrument is tuned up, the string tension will press the neckmountingbracket against the adjustmentscrew 6. And by turning screw β from underneath the core, the desired neckangle is obtained. Securing the position and tightening the neckmountingbracket to the core is done with bolt 2. The pickups 18 are mounted on a board 17 fastened by screws in the holes 11. When one of the two
sidepieces is removed, the pickupboard can be taken out sideways while the instrument is still tuned up.
In figure 3 and 4 the neckmountingbracket 4 is on the inside of the fork 7. The lockingbolt 2 goes through both forksides and the axle 21 also serves as a screw like lockingbolt 2.
