Definitions

  • This invention relates to apparatus for dispensing stock feed or for analogous purposes.
  • the general object of the present invention is to provide apparatus which is efficient in feeding any of a wide variety of materials, including non-free- flowing substances such as cotton seed and the like, at a controlled rate.
  • Other objects achieved in preferred embodiments of the invention are to provide such apparatus which is usable for thoroughly mixing together two or more ingredients, such as nutrient supplements and cotton seed, and for subsequently delivering the mixture in a controlled or regulated manner; and which is simple and economical to manufacture and sturdy and durable in use.
  • the invention resides broadly in apparatus for dispensing stock feed or for analogous purposes including: a hopper to contain material to be dispensed, and tapering downwardly to open into an outlet chamber having an outlet opening, a drive shaft extending through the outlet chamber, drive means for driving the drive shaft, an oblique travelling auger adjacent to the inside face of the hopper, its shaft connected by a universal joint to the drive shaft, an auger head on the travelling auger in such engagement with the upper part of the hopper that, when the drive means drives the drive shaft and travelling auger shaft, the auger head carries the travelling auger about the interior of the hopper adjacent to its inner surface.

Owing to the engagement of the inner and outer friction wheels at the head of the travelling auger with the rim of the hopper, the rotating auger is caused to travel around the hopper and consequently all of the contained material will become thoroughly mixed. When the stock feed is to be dispensed, the friction drive from the axle 16 is returned to normal and the shutter 57 is opened.
