Abstract
Personal smoke warning unit, where the unit comprising enclosed in a handy portable box, a smoke detector (1) connected with an impulse transmitter (3), which, when the smoke detector is activated, transmits electrical impulses to a relay (4) connecting a power source (12) to at least one bulb (2) arranged in a through going hole in the unit, both ends of which being closed by a preferably coloured transparent cover, and a switch (5) being arranged in or at a handle (8) of the unit, enabling the power source (12) to be connected with at least one normal flashlight bulb (13), independent of if the smoke detector (1) is activated or not, the flash light bulb (13) being permanently activated by the transmitter (3) when smoke has been detected by the smoke detector (1).
Description
Personal smoke warning unit
The present invention relates to a personal smo warning unit, of the type producing, when activated, an au ible signal as well as a visual signal.
Several types of warning systems are available toda based on smoke or heat detectors, which by activation, tran mit warning signals, partly visual signals, partly audib signals, as well as combinations. One of the main purposes with such systems is t advice a person in a smoke filled area about the dange whereby the person in question may have the possibility t escape. Broadly known are such systems secured at the seali of a room, possibly connected with a sprinkler plant. Experienced by a number of hotel fires and others the need has come up for a personal warning system whic easily can be a part of a persons luggage and which als easily can be carried by a person thereby warning the perso as such by sound signals in the case of a fire, but also and equaly important, advising fire personal by light signal that an unconscious person may be present in a smoke fille room.
It therefore principally is an object of the presen invention to provide a personal smoke warning unit whic easily can be part of a person's luggage and even easil can be carried by the person in question, thereby givin an audible signal in case of smoke detection in such a wa that the person may have the possibility to escape from th area. On the other hand it is an object of the present invent ion, when smoke is detected, to activate a flashing ligh signal to thereby catch the attention of fire personell.
It furthermore is an object of the present inventio to provide a personal smoke warning unit which additionall to the smoke warning signals also can be used as flash ligh for persons escaping from a smoke-filled area.
The above-stated objects and other advantages ar achieved by the personal smoke warning unit according t the present invention as defined by the features stated, i
• the characterizing clauses of the accompaning patent claims.
The drawing discloses one embodiment of the present invention, whereby Fig. 1 is a schematic side view of the unit according to the invention, ■ Fig. 2 is a side view as 5 seen from the left hand side of the unit on Fig. 1, and Fig. 3 discloses a schematic section through the unit according to the present invention, exposing the different parts consti¬ tuting the personal smoke warning unit according to the inven¬ tion. 10 Fig. 1 discloses schematic a side view of the personal smoke warning unit having a convenient shape and dimension for the purpose. As disclosed in the drawing the unit also is provided with a loop 9 making it easy to carry the unit.
A portion of the unit cover is provided with slots
'5 7, enabling smoke to penetrate into the interior of the unit and activate a smoke detector 1 as disclosed in Fig. 3. The circuit between the smoke detector element and the buzzer element in the smoke detector 1 is connected with an impulse transmitter 3 giving electrical impulses when the detector 0 is activated. The electrical impulses from the transmitter is activating a relais 4 which connects an electric bulb 2 with a power source 12, such as dry batteries. In case of smoke detection a sound thereby is transmitted from the detector buzzer and flashing light is transmitted from the 5 bulb 2. The bulb 2 is arranged within a through-going hole in the unit, the openings on both sides of the unit being closed by a colored transparent cover, such as yellow, which by detection of smoke will give a flashing intermittent yellow light to both sides of the unit, thereby ensuring that such 0 an attention light is transmitted even if the unit rests with one side on a floor, such as when a person carrying the unit is unconscious due to the smoke present.
If a person is warned by the warning sound from the smoke detector, the need for a flash light often will exist 5 and the unit according to the present invention therefore is provided with a switch 5 build into a handle grip 8 of the unit, the switch thereby connecting the power source 12 with bulbs 13 giving a front light through a transparent
• cover 10. In case of the smoke detector detecting smoke, however, the transmitter 3 permanently will activate the flash light bulbs 13.
The personal smoke warning unit according to the 5 present invention may be provided with a separate power source 11, such as a dry battery, directly connected with the smoke detector 1 to ensure that a warning signal can be transmitted by activation of the smoke detector, even if the power source 12 should be exhausted.
'0 The personal smoke warning unit according to the invention also may be provided with a main switch 6, discon¬ necting the smoke detector from it's power source 11 when not in use.
