Abstract

Chimney having concentric flues (2, 4, 6) for the discharge of burnt gases from different sources, preferably the central channel (2) discharging the gas with the highest temperature said chimney having a cap (12) protecting all the flues.

Description

Chimney.
The invention is related to a chimney comprising a flue for burnt gases of a heating device and a flue concentric to said first flue, by which between both flues a ring shaped channel is formed for the discharge of ventilation gases. Such a chimney is known from Dutch Patent Application 73,04218. This known chimney gives satisfaction for the discharge of burnt gas, for instance originating from a boiler of a central heating and of ventilation gases, for instance coming from spaces to be ventilated such as kitchens, the room in which said boiler is positioned, etc, which latter gases have a temperature that is the same or a little higher than the surrounding temperature.
However, in case one desires to connect to this known chimney a discharge flue for burnt gases of a further burning device, for instance of a burning device for a solid fuel such as of an open hearth or stove, then objections are met. The burnt gas of such a burning device has an considerably higher temperature than the burnt gases of a boiler of a central heating. The draught upon said boiler becomes higher, which is undesirable. Further the flue guiding the burnt gas becomes hotter which also is difficult in connection with overheating of for instance the roof bushing and the possibility of fire. Moreover sparks or burning fuel parts may leave the chimney which is dangerous for the surroundings.
The invention aims to remove said objections.
According to the invention this is fulfilled by the fact that a third concentric flue is present in such a manner that a second ring shaped channel is formed for discharge gases of a second heating device. By the fact that the hot gases from such a burning device flow through a separate channel no further draught is excerted on the boiler of the central heating and the flues are somewhat cooled by the discharge gas with lower temperature flowing alongside. The extra draught mentioned above is substantially less objectionable.
It is preferred that the embodiment is such that the center channel serves for discharging the burnt gases with higher temperature, the first ring shaped channel serves for the discharge of burnt gases with lower temperature and the outer ring shaped channel serves to discharge the ventilation gases.
The known chimney is covered at the discharge side against entrance of rain by a cap having a diameter larger than that of the outer flue. For the application to a chimney as mentioned above it is preferred that the central channel at its discharge end is closed by a cap shaped wire grate and a plate supported thereon, which grate is surrounded by said cap. By the presence of the wire grate the escape of sparks and such is avoided.
To avoid the entrance of rain said plate is present and the burnt gas is discharged sidewardly. Here it is preferred that the ring shaped channels debouches in the ring shaped space between the wire grate and the cap. To discharge rain coming in obliquely it is preferred that the inner flue in said ring shaped space in the cap is surrounded by a frusto conical ring. The obliquely entering rain therefore is removed sidewardly and will flow away through the space between the lower edge of the cap and the outer wall.
Finally it is preferred that the diameter of the smallest opening of the ring is larger than that of the cap shaped wire grate. In case of gusts of wind the flow of the burnt gases is opposed. By providing a ring shaped passage the burnt gases are able to flow out¬ wardly through said passage.
The invention will now be discussed in detail with the aid of a drawing in which an embodiment is shown schematically.
The single figure shows a vertical section of the chimney according to the invention.
The burning device, not shown, for solid fuel such as a stove or- an open hearth is connected at 1 to the central channel 2 for burnt gas, the boiler of the central heating is connected at 3 on the first ring shaped channel 4 and the ventilation flue 5 is connected to the outer ring shaped channel 6.
At the upper side the central gas flue 4 is covered by a cap shaped wire grate 7 on which a plate 1 is provided. The combustion gas will flow sidewardly between the three stays 9 and the distance pieces 10 in a room 11 that is formed between the downwardly directed wall 12 of the cap and the discharge channel 2 for gases from the burning device and they subsequently may flow out upwardly. In the lower side of said room also both ring shaped channels 4 , 6 debouche
_ -_OM?T_ so that also the gases flowing away will flow upwardly through the room 11.
To prevent entering of rain the central channel, as indicated above, is closed by a plate 8. To guide rain water to the inner side of the wall 12 of the cap on the outer side of the inner flue 2 a conically truncated ring 13 is provided from which rain water can flow away and will flow through the room 11 between the wall of the cap and the outer wall of the outer flue 6 in which distance pieces 14 take care that the cap is well centered. To make also possible the passage of the exhaust gases in case of gusts of wind a ring shaped opening 19 is formed between the upper edge of the ring 13 and the circimferential wall of the cap 7.
It will be clear that with the chimney according to the invention the objections against the known chimney are removed. During burning the discharge gases follow the streams indicated with arrows and in particular arrow 15 indicates the flow direction of the discharge gas of the heating device, arrow 16 the flow direction of the discharge gas from the boiler of the central heating, arrow 17 the flow direction of the ventilation gas, arrow 18 the flow direction of the water and arrow 20 the flow direction of the exhaust gases in case of gusts of wind.
