Abstract

Rest gaiter for equidae, intended to be used instead of bandages known as "rest bands". The invention relates to gaiter enabling to durably apply various products to a portion of an equidae member when not at work, or simply to protect from the cold, blows, insects or any infection source.It can not be used during work because of its consistence, its shape and thickness. It is comprised of a soft thick flannel or any other fabric having the same qualities, optionally of an intermediary layer of polyester foam or any other similar material and of an outer envelope of perforated plastified jersey or any other material having the same caracteristics, on which are fixed the closure systems. Said three parts correspond to the parts A, B and C in the joined figure.

Description

1) Paramedical accessory to provide care to members of equines, characterized by the fact that it replaces the 2 separate components (disposable cotton piece and fixing bandage) of the rudimentary system still in use, thanks to the assembly of several materials fulfilling the functions of cotton, which of the strip, in a single self-adhesive compress, of a longevity greater than that of any bandage, and marrying in a block, without winding, the part of member to be treated - even the knee or the hock where no bandage holds -this due to its realization in several specially adapted models.

2) Rest gaiter according to claim 1, characterized by its 2 or better 3 superimposed and integral parts, and the materials which compose them:

- for the external part or envelope, a rigid or preferably semi-rigid material, possibly perforated: coated fabric, fleece, rubber, plastic, etc.

- for the internal part, in contact with the skin, with a stretch velor sponge or any soft, permeable material, preferably slightly stretchy, resistant to deformation, felting and rotting; all fully synthetic or heat generating material being excluded.

- for the optional intermediate part, serving to reinforce the impregnation capacity, polyether foam or any hydrophilic material which is difficult to degrade.

3) Rest gaiter according to any one of the preceding claims, characterized by its closure by crossing the extensions R1 and R2 (fig 3) of the envelope, and by the vertical arrangement of "Velcro" allowing to distribute over any the height of the gaiter the pressure exerted by the tightening, preventing the formation of beads.

It goes without saying that the present invention is not limited to the sole forms and materials described above, but embraces all the possibilities of making a gaiter specially designed to advantageously replace the so-called "rest bandage" system for care. to members of equines.

It is unused during work due to its consistency, shape and thickness. It is made of a fleece or any other fabric feeling the same qualities, possibly an intermediate layer of polyether foam or other similar substance of an outer shell of perforated plasticized jersey or another material offering the same characteristics, su what are the locking systems. These three parts correspond to parts A, B and C of the figure.

REST GUARD FOR EQUIDES

The present invention relates to a repoa guttre for equidae, intended to replace the bandages known as "rest bands", for preventive or curative purposes.

Currently there are bandages called "rest bands", made of elastic fabric, which wrap around the barrel (fig l, A) and the ball (fig I, B) of the equine, usually over a layer of cotton wool (dry or soaked in a treatment liquid, for example an astringant).

The disadvantages of this system are numerous: - The installation is long and delicate, given that a band that is too tight or pleated risks obstructing the blood circulation, and that the band is too loose to slip, thus becoming useless or even dangerous;

- Given the length of the strip, there is a risk, if it slips or if the animal manages to defeat the closure system, that he walks on it or gets the other members inside, falls or injures himself;

- It is difficult to obtain a regular distribution of the pressure exerted on the member, which prohibits the installation of bands to neophytes;

- Washing and drying of the strips must be carried out with special precautions, so as not to harm the elasticity of the fabric;

- Even under these conditions, the bandage loses its elasticity in use, which means that it has to be changed quite frequently, otherwise the animal will be injured by excessive compression of the limb or hardening of the tissue;

- For reasons already mentioned, the exposure and removal time is long, which is inconvenient and even dangerous in the case of nervous, fearful or excited animals;

- Likewise, the time necessary to roll the strips after use or after washing, and the delicacy of this operation (the bandages having to be rolled perfectly flat), make it a very inconvenient system, which harms the profitability in large sports stables where you have to handle dozens of pairs several times a day;

- Finally, it is practically impossible to bandage any other part members such as those called "cannon" and "cannonball", at least without at the same time preventing the animal from moving (moving around in its box or lying down), when it would be useful to be able to place a preventive bandage or eurative on certain other fragile parts, exposed to trauma or ailments, such as the knee and hock joints, which are very often injured, inflamed or the site of synovial effusions.

The rest gaiter is inspired in principle by the gaiter known as "working" currently existing, which is intended exclusively for use on an equine in action, without the possibility of impregnation by a treating product, and therefore cannot claim to replace the rest bands. Conversely, the rest gaiter cannot claim to replace a gaiter or a working bandage.

The rest gutter is therefore a gaiting of a shape adapted to the part of the member to be covered, as shown in Figure I. We see a gaiter for front and rear cannon and ball (C1) and rear (C2), for knee (G) and for hock (J). These forms are moreover not limiting.

The gutting can be dry poached or soaked with a treatment liquid, just like a rest band.

Asec, it keeps the limb or the joint warm, safe from shocks and injuries, its airy texture even allowing it to be used on a wound previously covered with powder, ointment or gauze; it also prevents the guttered part from being in contact with a source of infection, and this much more effectively than a strip, which is much more permeable than the outside of the gutter, as we will see later. Wet, it allows the more or less prolonged application of these various substances, and here again replaces the repoa strip all the more advantageously that an almost impermeable external surface cannot be imbibed with the applied liquid; which not only increases its efficiency by avoiding too rapid evaporation, but also eliminates the risk of poisoning when this liquid is toxic, like the lead subacetate called "white water", very frequently used and which has caused number of fatal accidents, horses having licked or chewed their bandages (either to try to remove them, or because of the sweet taste of this product). The liquid can either be applied directly to the interior part of the gutter, designed for this purpose, or be it on a strip of hydrophilic cotton which is then covered with guttration.

The gaiter is composed as follows:

- a thickness of fleece, fleece, velvet, velvet sponge, jersey, suede, hydrophilic cotton stitched, or any other material soft to the skin, permeable, easily washable, not likely to harden or fluff, or to cause allergies, which constitutes the internal part of the gaiter (fig 3, A)

- an intermediate layer of polyether foam, sponge or other spongy material intended: I) to increase the capacity of impregnation of the gaiter; 2) wet or dry, to adapt closely, by its elastic and compressible character, to the shape of the same, thus making the guttre more stable and more effective, all the more so as it gives it a massage effect. This intermediate thickness can be eliminated if a greater thickness of the inner layer described above is provided; nevertheless this solution is less efficient, although of a simpler realization, (fig 2, M and 3, B)

- finally, an external envelope in rigid fabric without excess (in order to have a maximum of "holding" without however preventing the animal from moving), as ventilated as possible (so that the skin can breathe and the humidity evaporate slowly), and nevertheless fairly waterproof (for the reasons already mentioned above). This material can be canvas, leather, plastic or rubber, or a plasticized or rubberized fabric, or any other material having the same qualities; these materials are optionally perforated to allow ventilation, when they are too waterproof. The most suitable material seems to be the perforated plastic jersey that is used in the automotive industry to double the ceilings of cars. The adaptation to the shape of the limb is made by means of pliers (P) or by molding, depending on the material used. lll is also preferable to also practice clamps in the internal thickness, set a cut in the intermediate thickness ai it is in foam and that one cannot practice a pincea there, so that the gaiter is more perfectly adapted to the member and that the internal thickness cannot crease, which would risk injure the limb.

This envelope (fig 2, E or 3, C) is extended by one or better, two flaps allowing the gaiter to be closed by means of an appropriate system (the system known under the commercial name of "" Velcro "). if two rabata are used, these are arranged as shown in figure 3, so that the gaiter is closed by crossing them on the front of the member to apply them on each side of the gaiter , on the "Velcro" V 3 and V4 corresponding to the "Velcro" VI and V2 fixed inside the rabata E1 and R2. It should be noted that in order to avoid that one of these two closures is undone due to friction of the two parts corresponding to the height of the ball, which is already swollen by itself, it is better that the closure, inside the members, is placed on the upper half of the gaiter, the other flap closing on the lower pity , outside of the limbs all the more since the horse could be embarrassed if the internal face of its limbs touched at the level of s balls, due to the additional thickness of the gutter and the closure systems.

It goes without saying that the invention is not limited to the other forms and materials described above by way of example, but embraces all the possibilities of producing a gaiter specially intended for use on any part of a member of an equine, outside of work (in the box, in transport, in the meadow, etc ...), and designed so that it can be applied impregnated with a liquid.

Claims

- R E V E N D I C A T I O N S -

I) Accessory for equines, designed to be used in place of the accessory currently in use called "rest band" from which it differs by its ease of installation, handling and maintenance, its safety, and the possibility of using it on parts of limbs where the use of a "rest band" is impossible or inconvenient; this accessory, called "gaiter of rest", is characterized by its shape, making it possible to marry in a single block the shape of the part of the same knuckle, and by the materials of which it is composed, and which give it the following qualities :

- Possibility of impregnation with a liquid;

- Sufficient ventilation of the skin;

- Rigidity sufficient for the gaiter to remain in place for at least 24 hours without sagging or wrinkling;

- Flexibility nevertheless sufficient for the animal to be able to move in step;

- Possibility of dry use, to protect the limb from the cold, blows or sources of infection, or to allow the application of a powder or a paste, as under a conventional dressing. The materials that can be used to make this gaiter are as follows:

- for the external part of the gaiter, a rigid fabric, canvas, skin, leather, jersey or canvas coated or plasticized, plastic material, etc., perforated if the material is too little porous, and which then combine qualities of stiffness without excess , aeration, “t difficulty of impregnation by the liquid when the gaiter is soaked (in order to avoid that the animal becomes intoxicated by licking its gaiters when they are soaked with a toxic liquid such as the sub-acetate of commonly used lead)

- for the internal part, in contact with the skin, a soft, non-abrasive and permeable fabric: fleece, fleece, velvet, velvet sponge, jersey, quilted hydrophilic cotton, suede, etc ...

- possibly for an intermediate part intended to reinforce the capacity of impregnation, insulation and holding of the gaiter, polyether foam, sponge or one of the materials usable for the internal part.
