Description
Frame plate and/or pressure plate for a plate heat exchanger
This invention relates to a frame plate and/or pressure plate for a plate heat exchanger, the plate having holes going through the same for at least one heat exchanging medium.
A plate heat exchanger comprises a frame plate and a pressure plate and heat exchanging plates applied between these ones. The package is kept together by a set bolt joint.
In at least the frame plate there are made connections to the pipe lines for the media that are to be heat exchanged. In this connection there are as a rule four connections:
Inlet port and outlet port for medium I and II, respectively.
When using frame plates and/or pressure plates in which the distances between the ports are small, problems have appeared to arise at the connections of the pipe lines. These problems partly depend on the fact that the flanges of the connections come too near each other or simply are applied against each other, partly that the flanges of the connections come too near the carrying bars and the guide bars.
Previously these problems have been solved partly by the fact that connecting pipes of different lengths have been applied onto the frame plate and/or the pressure plate, partly by the fact that pipe bends have been applied onto the connecting pipes of the frame plate and/or the pressure plate. Since the connecting details are made of stainless steel, titanium or expensive alloys, the costs of the details become high. Furthermore, projecting connecting details are subjected to pressure vessel requirements, wherefore the cost for the application of these ones will be still higher for this reason.
Moreover, there have sometimes been wishes from customers regarding connnection dimensions which are not in accordance with the standard for which the heat exchanger is designed, and which corresponds to the dimension that the plates of the plate package have in their port openings. Such customer wishes can apply to both smaller or larger dimensions than the normal connection of the plate heat exchanger. Such requirements are today in most cases met by expensive external distance pieces which are coned up or down and are placed between the frame plate or the pressure plate and the connecting pipe line flange. These wishes can be met by this invention. Furthermore, the problems previously mentioned are solved by this invention.
According to the invention at least one wall line limiting the hole has such a direction that it forms an angle with the plane (P) of the plate other than 90°.
In the drawing
Fig 1 shows a connection port of a frame plate or pressure plate with a pipe line connected to the plate and fastening elements belonging to the pipe line,
Fig. 2 shows an apparatus similar to that one of Fig. 1 but provided with another lining in the connection port,
Fig. 3 shows a frame plate or a pressure plate according to the invention, and
Fig. 4 shows another embodiment of the invention.
In Fig. 1 there is shown a frame plate or pressure plate 1 onto which are fastened a number of bolts 2 by means of which a flange 3 can be applied against the plate 1. The purpose of the flange 3 is to hold a connecting pipe 4 with a flange 5 belonging to it
against the plate. For tis purpose the bolt 2 cooperates with a nut 6.
The plate 1 has holes 7 going through the same for taking in and out, respectively, at least one heat exchanging medium. The walls and the centre axis (C1) of the hole (7) have an angle to the plane (P) of the plate other than 90°. In this connection one longitudinal edge 8 of th hole 7 in Fig. 1 forms an acute angle with one longitudinal edge 10 of the plate 1, while the other longitudinal edge 9 of the hole 7 in Fig. 1 forms an acute angle with the other longitudinal edge 11 of the plate. Due to this arrangement the hole 7 on the outside of the plate 1 can be moved further outwards towards the periphery kof the plate 1, whereby the distances between th connection holes 7 on the outside 12 of the plate become larger than on the inside 13 of the plate.
According to this embodiment the section of the hole at the outside 12 of the plate 1 is preferably circular and as bif as that one at the inside 13 of the plate 1.
Into the hole 7 a lining 14 is inserted which in this case is made of a sheet of steel. Instead of being made of metal the lining can be made of rubber or plastics material. According to the embodiment the lining 14 has a flange 15 applied between the plate 1 and the flange 5 of the connecting pipe 4. On the inside 13 of the plate 1 there is made a recess 16 into which a steel ring 17 preferably circular is applied. In this steel ring is fastened partly the lining 14 and partly a gasket 18 which functions as a seal between the plate 1 and the closest heat exchanging plate 19.
In Fig. 2 there is shown an apparatus of principally the same design as in Fig. 1. The apparatus according to Fig. 2, however, has a lining 20 of another design. The lining 20 is made of rubber and in onr piece, i.e. it includes also that part 21 that
corresponds to the separately made steel ring 17 with a gasket belonging to it according to Fig. I. In order to prevent that the rubber flange 22 is crushed between the plate 23 and the flange 24 of the connecting pipe 25 there are positioned distance elements 26 in the flange 22 which elements are preferably made of steel.
The new solution can be used in different types of corrosionprotecting lining arrangements but also for wholly unprotected frame materials.
In Fig. 3 there is shown a frame plate or pressure plate 30 according to the invention. In this connection it is evident that the late 30 is provided with four connection holes 31, 32, 33, 34, the centre axis of which forms an angle with the plane of the plate other than 90°.
When making the connection holes in the plate autogenous cutting is preferably used. In this connection the gas flame is directed with a certain angle to the plate and is allowed to follow a circle. Due to that a circular hole opening in the outer surfaces 10 and 11 of the frame plate and/or pressure plate is brought about, while a section perpendicular to the centre axis of the hole gets the form of an ellipse.
The fourth figure discloses a schematic sketch over a third embodiment of the invention. According to this one the frame plate or pressure plate 40 has a hole 41, at last one longitudinal edge 42 of which in the figure forms an acute angle with the longitudinal edge 43 of the plate 40. The other longitudinal edge 44 of the hole according to the figure also forms an acute angle with the longitudinal edge 43 of the plate, but as an alternative can form a right angle with the plate.
Into the plate hole 41 is suitably inserted a metal lining or
a rubber lining 45.
This embodiment is particularly suitable if the customer has wishes about the dimensioning of the connections and about the velocity of the heat exchanging media in connecting pipes that deviate from those relating to the port dimensions of the plate package.
The above described embodiments can be applied to someone or some of the ports in the frame plate and/or the pressure plate as well as all ports.
