Abstract

A procedure for manufacturing foil for a container e.g. a tube, wherein one side of the foil (1) is at least partly coated with plastic film (2). The metallic margin of the foil is prevented from coming into contact with the product in that at the wrapping of the foil (1) to from a cylindrical or conical object (4) in a manner known in itself in the art, the margin (3) coming to lie on the inner surface has been folded so that it is interposed between the foil courses.

Description

Procedure for manufacturing a tube casing
The present invention concerns a procedure for manufacturing a foil for a container, e.g. a tube, wherein one side of the foil is coated partly at least with a plastic film. The foil usually consists of aluminium of which the surface is protection-varnished with a hot seam protective varnish. The foil is cut off to constitute a piece of suitable length and is wrapped around a mandrel, whereupon it is heated to a temperature high enough to cause the hot seam protective varnish to glue the courses fast to each other. The drawback is that the inner surface facing against the mandrel also is heated and the foil adheres to the mandrel. Therefore the protective varnish film is quite likely to suffer rupture, and the material kept in the tube will come into contact with the metal. It is also a drawback that the margins of the foil tend to remain bare. Since always one of the two margins is positioned inside the tube, the risk is present that the product with which the tube is filled comes into contact with the foil metal.
Such foil coating procedures are also known in the art in which the surface which will be the inner surface of the tube is coated with melted plastic, which also covers the margin areas by flowing and by filling all cavities. Such a procedure is disclosed in the Finnish patent application No. 820915.
The object of the invention is to eliminate the drawbacks mentioned and to afford, alternatively, a solution that is simpler compared with that which has been disclosed in said patent application.
The tube casing of the invention is characterized in that at the procedure step of wrapping the foil into cylindrical or conical shape in a manner known in itself in the art, the margin which comes to lie on the inner surface has been folded so that it remains interposed between the foil layers. The invention is described in the following with the aid of an example with reference made to the attached drawing depicting a foil tube manufactured by the procedure of the invention.
The foil 1 is coated with a plastic film 2 over the entire width of the foil while this is still in the form of a continuous strip e.g. on an extruder as known in the art. The foil strip is then cut to suitable lengths and wrapped to become a tube casing 4. Prior to . this, the foil margin.3 coming to lie on the inner surface of the casing is folded inward so that, as revealed by the figure, it will not come into contact with the product kept in the tube.
It is obvious to a person skilled in the art that different embodiments of the invention are not confined exclusively to the example presented and may vary within the scope of the claim stated below.

Claims

Claim
Procedure for manufacturing foil for a container such as a tube, where one side of the foil (1) is at least partly coated with a plastic film (2), characterized in that when the foil (1) is being wrapped to form a cylindrical or conical object (4) in a manner known in itself, the margin (3) coming to lie on the inner surface has been so folded as to be interposed between the foil courses.
