Description

A Frame
The present invention relates to a frame, particularly intended for fire-proof doors and preferably made of steel profile, this frame, which is designed to be fitted in an opening, particularly a wall opening, having an abutment shoulder which is adapted to a closing element such as a door or the like, and comprising as well at least one fixing arrangement which is designed to be fixed to at least one edge of the opening intended for the frame, and adapts thereto.
The main object of the present invention is to make it possible to fix such a frame for closing elements such as doors, gates and windows in an opening in the wall of a building, simply and accurately, without any special work having to be carried out on the opening.
The said object is achieved with a frame according to the present invention which is primarily characterised in that the said fixing arrangement comprises at least one adjustable fixing device which extends along the opening plane of the opening and bridges the distance between the frame and the edge of the opening, and which can be locked to the said edge of the opening so as to hold and support the said fixing device and the frame in the desired position in the opening.
The invention is described in the following with reference to the accompanying drawings, on which Figure 1 shows in cross-section a frame constructed according to the invention and used for a door,
Figure 2 shows the frame and the door viewed from their planar side,
Figure 3 shows in cross-section a frame which is fixed to a brick wall,
Figure 4- shows an alternative design for the frame,
Figure 5 shows in cross-section a frame which is fixed to a wall which is not solid,
Figure 6 shows a fixing device appertaining to the frame, viewed from the side,
Figure 7 is a plan view or the fixing device shown in Figure 6,
Figure 8 shows in cross-section a frame constructed according to the invention with its associated covering strips, and
Figure 9 shows in cross-section a fixing device which can be used for fixing the frame constructed according to the invention.
In Figure 1 there is a door leaf designated with the numeral 1, or more specifically a fire-proof door leaf 1 which is supported pivotably by means of hinges 2 on one of its vertical edges on a frame 5 constructed according to the invention which is fixed to the edge 3a of an opening 3 in a wall 4. A frame part 5C expediently supports the said hinge 2 while another frame part 5A has a - cavity 6 which preferably has an adjustable lock bolt guard 7 which is designed to accommodate a lock bolt 9 which is mounted in the door leaf 1 so that it can be displaced in a lock case 8.
In the example shown in Figures 1, 3 and 5 the wall 4 to which the frame 5 is fixed is of the type which consists of plates 10 which are supported on battens 11, forming a hollow space 12 between the plates 10.
The frame 5 is formed, for example, of three frame parts 5A, 5B and 5C which, together with a door sill 13, are preferably assembled together to form a unit in a manner which is known per se, before they are inserted in the opening 3 in which it is desired they should be supported. However, it is also possible to assemble the various parts together to form a frame on site, where the opening 3 is located, if so desired.
All the frame parts 5A, 5B, 5C, which are preferably made of steel profile, with two frame side shanks 52 and 53 respectively located at a mutual distance from each other projecting from a central frame part 51 and suitably bent round at their respective free ends 54 and 55, each have an abutment shoulder 13 which is adapted to the intended closing element 1 which it is desired to support thereon.
The frame 5 also comprises a number of fixing devices 14 appertaining to the fixing arrangement, of which at least one such fixing device 14 extends along the opening plane of the opening 3. In the embodiment shown on the drawings in Figure 2 the frame 5 is fixed to the wall 4- with the aid of three short fixing devices 14 in each vertical frame part 5A and 5C respectively, with one similar fixing device 14 in the horizontal frame part 5B. Naturally, it would be entirely adequate to fix the frame 5 with a single fixing device. This fixing device would then preferably be made as an elongated device, in order to ensure that the same function is fulfilled as in the arrangement with a plurality of shorter fixing devices 14, the function of which will now be explained in more detail.
A fixing device 14 is formed of a part 14 in the form of a profile. The said fixing device 14 is formed of a flat part 14A with two side shanks 14B, 14C projecting out from the flat part 14A at a mutual distance from each other. Along each of the side shanks 14B, 14C a guideway 15 extends from a widened guideway section 15A, sloping towards the flat part 14A of the device 14 which forms what may be called an element of the fixing device. In the vicinity of the said widened guideway section 15A each of the shanks 14B, 14C is provided with a recess 16 or the like to form an entrance 153 through into the said guideway 15. The said fixing device 14 is designed to be mounted in the frame 5 by means of projecting fixing elements 17, before it is introduced into the opening 3 in the wall 4. The projecting fixing elements 17 may have the cross-section form shown in Figure 9, for example, like a boss 17 equipped with a hole 17A and having a flange shape 17B, which is preferably fixed onto the inside of the two bent ends 54 and 55 respectively of the frame part when the frame 5 or the frame parts 5A - 5C are delivered from the factory, as shown in Figures 1 and 3, by means of rivet-like devices such as blind rivets 18 for example.
The frame 5 is fixed in the opening 3 in the following way: .The adjustable fixing profile 14 is placed with its flat part 14A turned away from the frame 5 so that an entrance passage 15B on the two shanks 14B, 14C on the fixing device 14 comes directly in front of its respective pro jecting boss 17 on the frame 5, so that the said bosses 17 can be introduced through the passage 15B into their respective guideway 15. Preferably, the respective fixing devices 14 are attached to the frame 5 by means of the projecting fixing elements 17 in such a way that when the fixing device 14 is displaced in the vertical directi of the frame 5 the said device 14 is moved in the direction away from the frame 5 and towards the side edges 3A of the opening due to the fact that the guideways 15 converge in the direction towards the contact section 14A. When the respective fixing device 14 has been moved sufficiently, so that it rests with its contact section 14A against the edge 3A of the opening 3 against the fixed battens 11, for example, a hole 19 is made in the said fixed batten 11 and is preferably also tapped. Through a cut-out 20, preferably provided beforehand in the contact section 14A, a fixing element is inserted, for example, in the form of a screw element 21 equipped with a washer, which is screwed tight in the tapped hole 19. This is made possible from the outside of the frame 5 via a mounting hole 22 in the frame 5, which may be closed off expediently with a plug 23. In the event that the battens 11, etc. are too thin to have the frame 5 fixed to them, the batten 11 may be strengthened by means of a strengthening plate 24, etc.
The space between the frame 5 and the wall 4 is covered in, preferably by means of an elastic fixing element such as a sealing substance 25, for example, as shown in Figure 1.
The frame 5 or the various frame parts 5A - 5C are finally fixed when all the fixing devices 14 are. screwed firmly into the wall 4 in the manner described above. Figure 3 shows how a frame element 5 is fixed to a solid brick wall 43 by means of a wood-screw 211 which is screwed into a plug 26 which is inserted in an opening 27 in the wall 45.
Figure 4 shows an alternative version of a frame 5 fixed to a brick wall 44.
Figure 5 shows on a larger scale the fixing of a frame 5 mounted in a hollow wall 4, with a rubber profile element 28 inserted in the intermediate.space between the frame 5 and the wall 4.
Screening strips 31, 32 which bridge the distance between the frame 5 and the wall 4 are attached, as shown in
Figure 8, by using soring clips 29, 30 which preferably have a shape adapted to the respective shanks 52, 54 and 55, 55 of a frame 5.
The hollow space located inside the frame 5 is preferably filled up with some kind of insulating material 33, such as rock wool, for example.
The invention is not limited to the embodiment example shown on the drawings and described above, but can be modified within the framework of the following Patent Claims. For example, it is possible to arrange more pairs of projecting fixing elements on each frame section, with a corresponding number of guideways on the respective fixing profile devices or, instead of fixing the projecting fixing elements 17 to the frane 5, they may be fixed to the side shanks 14B, 14C of a fixing device and the slanting guideways may be arranged instead on the frame 5, in which the fixing elements are then designed to be accomodated in a similar way to that described above.
