Abstract
When selling gas containers it is immediately difficult to discover if the container is leaking and thus looses gas. To remedy this deficiency the gas container (1) is placed in a gasproof foil cover (2) which is completely evacuated in order to have the foil completely tight against the container wall. In case of a possible leakage in the gas cartridge (1) the foil cover (2) will be inflated by the gas and show the leakage. For packing can be used any gasproof foil that can be sealed, preferably by heat melting.
Description
METHOD AND MEANS FOR PACKING GAS CONTAINERS
The invention relates to a method for packing one or more objects, especially gas containers and the like as well as a packing for carrying out this method.
Previously known packings for gascontainers and cartridges have been cardboardboxes or bags that have the exclusive purpose of forming a sales packing and a protection for the article.
However, when selling such gas containing objects it is rather diffucult to prove whether a container with compressed gas is leaking for which reason it may not contain the required amount of gas at the actual moment of sale.
The contents of big containers can be checked by weighing the object so that the underweight will show the leackage.
This control, however, can not be used by the sale of small containers as e.g. gascartridges and lighters, carbondioxide containers for soda fountains, aerosol containers and the like, because first of all it is difficult to discover such small weight variations as well as the very weighing is difficult to exercise due to the inconveniences and drawbacks involved for staff and customer.
The purpose of the invention is to remedy this disadvantage when selling such gas containers, and this can be achieved by a method by which the object is encirkled by a gasproof foil cover, which is evacuated in order to create a tight contact with the object and then hermeticaly sealed. In this way a gasproof enclosing of the object is achieved so that a possible leak in the container will immediately be discovered by the observer because the foil cover will be inflated. In this way any shortage of the object will be discovered without having to unpack it and the object can be discarded. Furthermore a higher degree og security will be obtained by inflammable gases and the inflated packings containing inflammable gas can be remooved immediately.
By using the packing according to claim 2 a simple and secur packing is achieved.
The invention will be further described in the following with reference to the perspective drawing showing a gas- cartridge packed in a foil cover.
As it appears from the drawing, illustrating a carbon dioxide cartridge 1 packed in foil, the cartridge is encircled in a cover 2 of any suitable foil material.
This can consist of laminated foil, e.g. metal/polymeric, nylon, polyester, polyethylene or polypropylene in di
2 mensions between 10 and 70 g/m depending on the required protection and strength of the foil. The inner coating consists preferably of foil fusible by heat such as polyethylene, polypropylene, polyvinyl chloride or nylon. Especially nylon is suitable as it is gasproof.
The object is placed in the foil cover 2 after having been filled with gas, and the cover is evacuated in a generally known way. After the suction the cover 2 is sealed preferably by heat melting for creating an unbroken seal 3 which is completely airproof.
Now the cartridge 1 can be shipped and stored in the usual manner. If the gascartridge should have a leackage and gas gets out in the foil cover 2, this will be inflated, making a visible sign that the cartridge is leaking. Thus both the salesman and the buyer are guaranteed that the merchandise contains the original amount of gas if the foil cover is tightly attached to the gasholder.
In the discription is referred only to the packing of a single cartridge, but naturally there will be no hindrance to the packing of several cartridges in the same way in a joint packing.
The foil cover can naturally be provided with any desirable imprint in the generally known way.
