Abstract

A suction tube, particularly for evacuation of saliva and body liquids, comprises a flexible plastic tube (1) bent to the desired form and having a number of mutually spaced transverse cuts (3) arranged as suction openings in the tube wall.

Description

SUCTION TUBE
The invention relates to a suction tube, particu¬ larly for evacuation of saliva in operations in the cavity of the mouth and for evacuation of blood and other body liquids in surgical procedures, comprising a flexible plastic tube bent to the desired shape and having suction openings in the tube wall.
The object of the invention is to provide a suc- tion tube of this kind wherein a "false draught" can be allowed in order to prevent that the suction tube when being used, is attached by suction to the soft tissues in the cavity of the mouth or in the body.
For this object the suction tube according to the invention has obtained the characteristics appearing f om claim 1.
In order to illustrate the invention an embodiment thereof will be described in more detail below, reference being made to the accompanying drawing in which
FIG. 1 is a side view of a suction tube according to the invention in a straight condition, FIG. 2 is a fragmentary side view of the suction tube when bent at one end thereof, and FIG. 3 is an enlarged cross-sectional view taken along line III - III in FIG. 1. The suction tube shown in the drawing comprises a flexible tube 1 of plastic material having a stiffen¬ ing metal wire 2 which is embedded into the tube wall and allows the tube to be bent to and to maintain different forms. The metal wire 2 ca-n also be inserted into the passage through the tube or be glued or attached in another way to the outside or inside of the tube wall. A plurality of parallel cuts 3 are provided at one end of the tube, which is the inlet end of the
O PI tube, while the other end is intended for connection to a suction hose. The cuts 3 are arranged in a suit¬ able angle to the tube axis and preferably are perpen¬ dicular to said axis. They can extend in proximity to the metal wire 2.
When the tube is being bent as shown in FIG. 2, the cuts 3 form slots 4 and by bending the tube more or loss one can open the slots more or less in order to admit a "false draught" into the tube if the inlet end thereof should be obstructed when liquid is being evacuated through the end opening of the suction tube at the inlet end thereof. When the suction tube is being used it is also possible to provide a distribution of the suction action by evacuating liquid through the slots 4, the suction tube being engaged with the sur¬ face from which liquid is to be evacuated, at the por¬ tion wherein the slots are provided. The cut portion of the suction tube can be bent to form a tongue protection.
