Abstract

When a center-pivot door is to be shut there is a risk to damage one's fingers in the smaller gap between the frame and the door. According to the invention there is a profile moulding covering this gap. The cross section of the profile moulding mainly consists of three flanges (1, 2, 3). Two of the flanges (2, 3) are fixed to the attached frame (4) and are adjusted to the door wing (5) by spacers to the effect that the third flange (1) will cover the gap.

Description

Profile moulding to cover a door gap.
The invention concerns a profile moulding to cover a door gap which can appear at the hinged side of the kind of door that is mounted on the upper and the lower end of the door at som distance from one of the side edges of the door.
When a door is hung in this way there is a risk for hurting one's fingers in the gap on the hinged side, partly because the gap is rather brood when the door is open and partly because there can appear a con¬ siderable press-power in the gap due to the great relation between the moment arms.
From the specification in the US patent no. 3 934 371 and the British patent no. 778 626 are known door constructions intended to remedy the said disadvantage.
However, these constructions are rather complicated in that they need changes both on the frame and on the door and further the door has to be of a special kind or shape.
From the specification in the Danish patent application no. 2381/73 there is also known a construction where the gap is covered with an arrangement of adhesive bel¬ lows. The parts of the bellows consist of defor able material, sa they can scarcely give full scurity against putting fingers in the gap.
The object of this invention is to disclose a profile moulding to covering the door gaps of the indicated kind that easily can be mounted on most known doors without changing the door wing, which often is made of glass.
The special feature of the profile moulding according to the invention is that it's cross section mainly consists of three flanges, namely a first curved flange, a second and a third flange starting from one end of the curved flange and extending mainly at right angles relative each other.
By means of such a profile moulding it is easy to eli¬ minate said disadvantages wich are usual among the kind of doors which are to be closed or opened one way only. However, this is the case for a great deal of this kind doors.
Naturally, the flexure of the curved flange has to be dependent on the distance of the hinge from the side edge of the door. Beyond this, the second and the third flange have to be correctly placed in relation to the door frame.
The first concition can easily be fulfilled by using a few standard radir. The second condition can be ful¬ filled by means of inserted layers which can compensate
Figure imgf000003_0001
' ' Thus, by means o a ew standar pro i es s poss e to furnish secure covering of the gap of most of the existing types of doors and frames with desirable com¬ binations without, differences in the mounting.
According to the invention the curved flange can extend more than 90 degrees, so it will be possible to keep the achieved security by letting the door open more than
90 degrees, thus it is possible to apply such mountings si much out of the way that they do not give reasons for trouble.
Finally, one preferred embodiment of the profile moul¬ ding' according to the invention is caracteriz d in that the inner side of the curved flange ends up in an edge at the free end of one of the other flanges, and that the other flanges i.e. at het inner side of the angle profile formed by the second and the third flange consist of plane surfaces perpendicular to each other. Thus it will be possible to achieve that the gap between the side edge of the door and the frame will be very narrow when the door is in it's closed position.
The invention will be explained in detail with refe¬ rence to the drawing which shows a cross-section of a preferred embodiment of a profile moulding according to the invention and in mountetJ position, i.e. with the adjacent portions partly shown.
The moulding consists of curved flange _ , which at one end divides in a second and a third flange 2 and 3, these two flanges being fastened with screws to the corner .of a door frame 4, so that the position is adjusted in relation* to a door 5 by means of inserted layers 6 and 7.
Naturally, it is not necessary to insert these layers if the frame 4 has a suitable size or position. The door 5 is hung about a vertical axis which goes at right angle through the paper at A. The door 5 is shown in it's closed position.
The door is to be swing only in the direction shown by arrow P. The most open position of the door is indicated by dotted lines 8 and 9 and it is seen that in this outer position and in all intermediate positions it will not be possible to get one's fingers jammed at the side edge 10 by the hinged side of the door.
The inner side of the curved flange 1 ends up with on edge 11 at the free end of the flange 2.
