UNITED STATES y JACOB AHAISH, F-DE KAIIB, ILLINOIS.
BARBED FENCE-Wl RE.
SPECIFICATION fbx-ming pm of 'Reissues Letters Patent' No. 9,036, dated January e, Iseo. Original No. 167,240, dated August 31, 1875. .Application for Reissuefled October 1, 187i).
To all whom it may concern Be it 'known that I, JACOB HAISH, of De Kalb, in the county of De Kalb -and State of Illinois, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Barbed FenceWire; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art to which my invention appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanyingdrawing, forming a part of this specification.
. My inventionl relates to a novel mode of constructing wire-fence barbs for application to the strands otwisted-wire fence-rails,`either at the time of the n] anufactnreof the twistedwirfence-rail, or after therail has b'een at: tached to the fence-post, so as to deter cattle and horses from throwing their weight against the railswhenrubbing, or at otlIer'times,`-and thus breaking down the panels or vcausing them to sag. y
A A represent two posts of a panel, placed at` a suitable distance apart and provided with eyes a or other fastening device'. C is a rail formed of two wires twisted together and sustained in the eyes a a. 0f these there may be two or more.
B is my improved fence-barb, Which-jeunsists oi'a single piece of wire bent at its cen ter laterally, so that allits parts lie in the saine plane in the form of the letter S, forming two loops, as shown, and having its ends b' b" extended in opposite directions and sharpened at their points.,
By the peculiar construction of said fencebarb B, on being applied to the fence rail each strand c of the rail passes through one of the loops of the body passes around and between both strands of the rail, and the twist of the strands tends to bind firmly on the body b and hold the barb.
securely in place. The barb can beso at tached t-o Vand at the tiIne of twisting the wire rail, or it can be attached to both` strandsof the-twisted-wire fence-rail, and `so as to ernbrace each strand thereof, as shown, after the rail has been attached to the fence-posts, and without removing the rail from the posts, byv
being clamped therein and thereto by means of any suitable tool for that purpose.. The barb can be manufactured-and around and between both strands of the rail,
substantially as specified.
