A is a carrier in which a heating wire B, adapted to be heated in consequence of its resistance to the flow of an electric current therethrough, is located. The carrier A has on its bottom'platea button-shaped circumferentially grooved extension I) of metal which is to be inserted into the 0 en end of a slot formed in a frame-like hol er, H of the contact casing Ci whidh forms art of the stationary base of the lighter. This holder H is yieldably mounted by means of a pivot pin L which. 1s suitably supported within the casing" and connected to the holder H toward one of its ends, it extending behind andperpendicularly to the length of the slot therein, and is acted on by a spring M. The spring. M bearsat the one end onto the slottedholder H and at the other end onto the bottom plate F of the casing. The contact spring E is fixed to the slotted holder H. Between the bottom plate F andcasing 0 an insulating plate 0 of cardboard is inserted, so that one of the branches of the circuit is formed by the casing, and the other branch of the circuit, which includes the slotted holder H and contact spring E, is insulated from the casing, and the front wall of thecasing is formed with a slot F3 whichextends parallelwith and is larger than the slot in the holder H so that the extension Don the carrier A may extend through the slotF' while engaged with the holder, without making one end 0 the heatin wire B, the other end of said heating wire ing connected by the conductor a, to the outer body portion of the carrier A; f
As shown in Fig. 3 the contact plug 1' is electrically connected to a contact coating N which is mounted in the casing insulated from the same and opposite the contact spring E The second contact plug I- is connected to the mass of the casin The operation is as follows: In ig. 1 the contactspring E is in the position of rest s accd from the contact coating N.- When t ecarrier A of the heating wire is tipped, asshown in Fig. 2, the blade spring E comes into touch with the contact coating N, since the holder'H to which it is fixed, is drawn forwardly by the button-shaped extension I) i engaging it, and at the same time, an edge of the body of the carrier A is in electrical contact with the face ofthe casing C, so that current flows through the heating spiral B between one side of the electric circuit which is connected/to the casing G, and the other side of said circuit which is connected to the spring E insulated from the casing. As soon as the heating wire has been sufficientlyheated, the carrier A is pulled out if the slottedv holder H and used for lighting a cigar.
After use the carrier A is re-inserted into stationary casing respect to the base into a re atively tipped position where it will cause engagement of said contacts and closing of the electric circuit throu h the heatin resistance.
