Abstract

A miniature rose plant having the unique combination of a bright-yellow flower color; easy production from softwood cuttings; healthy, mildew-resistant foliage; and a shelf life of 12 to 14 days.

Description

The present invention relates to a new and distinct variety of rose plant of the miniature class which was originated by me by crossing Loving Touch (as the seed parent) and an unnamed seedling (as the pollen parent) resulting from the cross of Dorola×Genevieve (U.S. Plant Pat. No. 5,145).
The primary objective of this breeding was to produce a new rose variety having a bright yellow, non-fading color; good growth habits for pot rose production and an acceptable shelf life (i.e. duration of bloom flush or period of maintenance of bloom). The objective was substantially achieved, along with other desirable improvements, as evidenced by the following unique combination of characteristics that are outstanding in the new variety and that distinguish it from its parents, as well as from all other varieties of which I am aware:
1. Bright-yellow flower color;
2. Easy to produce from softwood cuttings;
3. Healthy, mildew-resistant foliage; and
4. A shelf life of 12 to 14 days.
Asexual reproduction of this new variety by softwood cuttings, as performed at Wasco and Somis, Calif., shows that the foregoing characteristics and all other features come true to form and are established and transmitted through succeeding propagations.
The accompanying illustration shows typical specimens of the vegitative growth and flowers of this new variety in different stages of development, depicted in color as nearly true as it is reasonably possible to make the same in a color illustration of this character.
The following is a detailed description of my new rose cultivar with color descriptions using terminology in accordance with the Royal Horticultural Society (London) Colour Chart, except where ordinary dictionary significance of color is indicated.
