Abstract

A vigorous rose plant of upright habit reaching over seven feet in height. Possesses long, stiff stems with fewer thorns than parent Tonight. Leaves are dark green of medium size. Flower is of uniform red color with light fragrance.

Description

The present invention relates to a new and distinct cultivar of rose plant of the hybrid tea class which was originated by me by crossing an unnamed variety with pollen of the variety, Tonight, U.S. Plant Pat. No. 3,522.
This objective was substantially achieved along with other desirable improvements as evidenced by the following unique combination of characteristics which are outstanding in this new cultivar and which distinguish it from its parents as well as from all other cultivars of which I am aware:
1. A very vigorous plant reaching over seven feet in height.
2. Long, stiff stems with fewer thorns than its parent, Tonight.
3. Leaves of dark green, medium size, smaller than those of rose Forever Young, U.S. Plant Pat. No. 2,443 (a grandparent variety).
4. A uniform red flower color of near RHS 44A with very little change from fresh bud to falling petals.
5. A pleasant although light fragrance.
Asexual reproduction of this new cultivar by budding as performed at Wasco, Calif., shows that the foregoing characteristics and distinctions come true to form and are established and transmitted through succeeding propagations.
The accompanying illustration shows typical specimens of the vegetative growth and flowers of this new cultivar in different stages of development, depicted in color as nearly true as it is reasonably possible to make the same in a color illustration of this character.
The following is a detailed description of my new rose cultivar with color in terminology in accordance with the Royal Horticultural Society Colour Chart except where ordinary dictionary significance of color is indicated.
