Abstract

A new Sutera plant particularly distinguished by having a large purple-blue flowers and very good branching, is disclosed.

Description

Genus and species: Sutera grandiflora.
Variety denomination: ‘KLESG22017’.
BACKGROUND OF THE NEW PLANT
The present invention comprises a new and distinct variety of Sutera, botanically known as Sutera grandiflora, and hereinafter referred to by the variety name ‘KLESG22017’. ‘KLESG22017’ originated from a hand pollination between the proprietary female Sutera variety ‘SG-2012-0347’ (unpatented) and the commercial male Sutera variety Scopia® Gulliver Blue (U.S. Plant Pat. No. 23,835, ‘Dancop37’).
From May 2014 through July of 2014 controlled-crosses of the proprietary female Sutera line ‘SG-2012-0347’ male Sutera parental line, Scopia® Gulliver Blue were undertaken in a foil house in Stuttgart, German. Seed was collected and cleaned in the winter of 2014. In January 2015, seed were sown and plants were grown for evaluation in Stuttgart, Germany in a greenhouse under glass. A plant line was selected in May 2015 and subsequently named ‘KLESG22017’. In May 2015, ‘KLESG22017’ was first vegetatively propagated in Stuttgart, Germany by asexual cuttings. ‘KLESG22017’ was found to reproduce true to type in successive generations of asexual propagation via asexual cuttings.
SUMMARY
The following are the most outstanding and distinguishing characteristics of this new variety when grown under normal horticultural practices in Stuttgart, Germany.
    • 1. Large purple-blue flowers; and
    • 2. Very good branching.
DESCRIPTION OF THE PHOTOGRAPH
This new Sutera plant is illustrated by the accompanying photograph which shows a close-up of the flowers. The photograph is of a 25-week-old plant grown in an outside environment in Stuttgart, Germany in August 2021. The colors shown are as true as can be reasonably obtained by conventional photographic procedures.
DESCRIPTION OF THE NEW VARIETY
The following detailed descriptions set forth the distinctive characteristics of ‘KLESG22017’. The data which define these characteristics were collected from asexual reproductions carried out in Stuttgart, Germany. Data was collected on plants 7-weeks from potting grown in a foil house where no plant regulators were used in Stuttgart, Germany in April 2023. Color references are to the RHS Mini Colour Chart of The Royal Horticultural Society of London (R.H.S.), (2005).
