Abstract

A new and distinct cultivar of Anemone plant named ‘IFANFRAP’, characterized by its upright and uniform plant habit; moderately vigorous to vigorous growth habit; early and freely flowering habit; long flowering period; large semi-double flowers that are white in color; and good garden performance.

Description

Botanical designation: Anemone hupehensis.
Cultivar denomination: ‘IFANFRAP’.
STATEMENT REGARDING PRIOR DISCLOSURES BY APPLICANT
An European Plant Breeder's Rights application for the instant plant was filed by the Applicant on Nov. 22, 2022, application number 2022/2619. Foreign priority is not claimed to this application.
BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
The present invention relates to a new and distinct cultivar of Anemone, botanically known as Anemone hupehensis and hereinafter referred to by the name ‘IFANFRAP’.
The new Anemone plant is a product of a planned breeding program conducted by the Inventor in Heerhugowaard, The Netherlands. The objective of the breeding program is to create new vigorous and fast-growing Anemone plants with numerous attractive flowers.
The new Anemone plant originated from an open-pollination in July, 2017 in a controlled greenhouse environment in Heerhugowaard, The Netherlands of Anemone hupehensis ‘IFANSA’, disclosed in U.S. Plant Pat. No. 31,802, as the female, or seed, parent with an unknown proprietary selection of Anemone hupehensis as the male, or pollen, parent. The new Anemone plant was discovered and selected by the Inventor as a single flowering plant within the progeny of the stated open-pollination in a controlled greenhouse environment in Heerhugowaard, The Netherlands in August, 2018.
Asexual reproduction of the new Anemone by in vitro meristem culture in a controlled environment in Heerhugowaard, The Netherlands since April, 2019 has shown that the unique features of this new Anemone plant are stable and reproduced true to type in successive generations.
SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION
Plants of the new Anemone have not been observed under all possible combinations of environmental conditions and various cultural practices. The phenotype may vary somewhat with variations in environmental conditions such as temperature and light intensity without, however, any variance in genotype.
The following traits have been repeatedly observed and are determined to be the unique characteristics of ‘IFANFRAP’. These characteristics in combination distinguish ‘IFANFRAP’ as a new and distinct Anemone plant:
    • 1. Upright and uniform plant habit.
    • 2. Moderately vigorous to vigorous growth habit.
    • 3. Early and freely flowering habit.
    • 4. Long flowering period.
    • 5. Large semi-double flowers that are white in color.
    • 6. Good garden performance.
Plants of the new Anemone can be compared to plants of the female parent, ‘IFANSA’. Plants of the new Anemone differ primarily from plants of ‘IFANSA’ in the following characteristics:
    • 1. Plants of the new Anemone are not as compact as plants of ‘IFANSA’.
    • 2. Plants of the new Anemone are more vigorous than plants of ‘IFANSA’.
Plants of the new Anemone can be compared to plants of Anemone hupehensis ‘Frilly Knickers’, not patented. In side-by-side comparisons, plants of the new Anemone and ‘Frilly Knickers’ differ primarily in plant habit as plants of the new Anemone are more compact than plants of ‘Frilly Knickers’.
Plants of the new Anemone can also be compared to plants of Anemone hupehensis ‘Dreaming Swan’, not patented. In side-by-side comparisons, plants of the new Anemone and ‘Dreaming Swan’ differ primarily in plant habit as plants of the new Anemone are more compact and shorter than plants of ‘Dreaming Swan’.
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE PHOTOGRAPHS
The accompanying colored photographs illustrate the overall appearance of the new Anemone plant showing the colors as true as it is reasonably possible to obtain in colored reproductions of this type. Colors in the photographs may differ slightly from the color values cited in the detailed botanical description which accurately describe the colors of the new Anemone plant.
The photograph on the first sheet (FIG. 1 ) is a side perspective view of a typical plant of ‘IFANFRAP’ grown in a container.
The photograph at the top of the second sheet (FIG. 2 ) is a close-up view of typical flowers of ‘IFANFRAP’.
The photograph at the bottom of the second sheet (FIG. 3 ) is a close-up view of typical leaves of ‘IFANFRAP’.
DETAILED BOTANICAL DESCRIPTION
The aforementioned photographs and following observations, measurements and values describe plants grown during the late summer/early autumn in 17-cm containers in an outdoor nursery in Heerhugowaard, The Netherlands and under cultural practices typical of commercial Anemone production. During the production of the plants, day temperatures ranged from 16° C. to 30° C. and night temperatures ranged from 8° C. to 18° C. Plants were 16 weeks old when the photographs and description were taken. In the following description, color references are made to The Royal Horticultural Society Colour Chart, 2015 Edition, except where general terms of ordinary dictionary significance are used.
