Abstract

A new Kalanchoe plant particularly distinguished by large, dark red flowers with an entire flower margin, is disclosed.

Description

Genus and species: Kalanchoe blossfeldiana.
Variety denomination: ‘KLEKB20040’.
BACKGROUND OF THE NEW PLANT
The present invention comprises a new and distinct variety of Kalanchoe, botanically known as Kalanchoe blossfeldiana and hereinafter referred to by the variety name ‘KLEKB20040’. ‘KLEKB20040’ originated from a controlled-cross between the proprietary female Kalanchoe variety ‘1031-1’ (unpatented) and the proprietary male Kalanchoe variety ‘724-2’ (unpatented).
In May 2018, the two Kalanchoe parental lines, the proprietary female Kalanchoe variety ‘1031-1’ and the proprietary male Kalanchoe variety ‘724-2’ were crossed in De Lier, Netherlands and seeds were obtained. The seeds were sown and plants were grown for evaluation. A single plant was selected in June 2019 and subsequently named ‘KLEKB20040’. In July 2019 ‘KLEKB20040’ was first vegetatively propagated by vegetative terminal cuttings in Stuttgart, Germany. ‘KLEKB20040’ was found to reproduce true to type in successive generations of asexual propagation via vegetative cuttings in Stuttgart, Germany.
SUMMARY
The following are the most outstanding and distinguishing characteristics of this new variety when grown under normal horticultural practices in Stuttgart, Germany.
    • 1. Dark red flowers; and
    • 2. Large flowers and an entire flower margin.
DESCRIPTION OF THE PHOTOGRAPH
This new Kalanchoe plant is illustrated by the accompanying photograph which shows an overall view of the plant.
The photograph is of an approximately 4-month-old plant grown in Stuttgart, Germany in September February 2019.
The colors shown are as true as can be reasonably obtained by conventional photographic procedures.
DESCRIPTION OF THE NEW VARIETY
The following detailed descriptions set forth the distinctive characteristics of ‘KLEKB20040’. The data which define these characteristics were collected from asexual reproductions carried out in Stuttgart, Germany. Data was collected on plants grown 16-weeks in Stuttgart, Germany grown in a greenhouse in July 2022. Color references are to The R.H.S. Colour Chart of The Royal Horticultural Society of London (R.H.S.), 5th edition (2007).
