Abstract

A new Pelargonium plant particularly distinguished by single, light purple, pink flowers with a red eye and a dark green leaf color, is disclosed.

Description

Genus and species: Pelargonium peltatum (L.) L'Hér. ex Aiton x Pelargonium zonale (L.) L'Hér. ex Aiton.
Variety denomination: ‘KLEPZ21614’.
CROSS-REFERENCE TO RELATED APPLICATION
This patent application claims the benefit of priority from Switzerland Plant Breeders Rights Application No. 21-3440 as filed on Jun. 2, 2021, the contents of which is incorporated herein by reference for all it teaches and discloses.
BACKGROUND OF THE NEW PLANT
The present invention comprises a new and distinct variety of Pelargonium, botanically known as Pelargonium peltatum (L.) L'Hér. ex Aiton x Pelargonium zonale (L.) L'Hér. ex Aiton and hereinafter referred to by the variety name ‘KLEPZ21614’. ‘KLEPZ21614’ originated from a hand-pollination in July 2016 in Nairobi, Kenya between the female Pelargonium variety ‘Rose Splash’ (not patented) and the male Pelargonium variety ‘Lilac Splash’ (not patented).
Seeds from the hand-pollination were obtained. The seeds were sown and plants were grown for evaluation. A single plant was selected in June 2017 and subsequently named ‘KLEPZ21614’. In July 2017 ‘KLEPZ21614’ was first vegetatively propagated by vegetative stem cuttings in Stuttgart, Germany. ‘KLEPZ21614’ was found to reproduce true to type in successive generations of asexual propagation via vegetative cuttings in Stuttgart, Germany.
SUMMARY
The following are the most outstanding and distinguishing characteristics of this new variety when grown under normal horticultural practices in Stuttgart, Germany.
    • 1. Single, light purple, pink flowers with a red eye; and
    • 2. A dark green leaf color.
DESCRIPTION OF THE PHOTOGRAPH
This new Pelargonium plant is illustrated by the accompanying photograph which shows an overall view of the plant in a pot. The photograph is of an approximately 14-week-old plant grown indoors in Stuttgart, Germany, in March 2022. The colors shown are as true as can be reasonably obtained by conventional photographic procedures.
DESCRIPTION OF THE NEW VARIETY
The following detailed descriptions set forth the distinctive characteristics of ‘KLEPZ21614’. The data which define these characteristics were collected from asexual reproductions carried out in Stuttgart, Germany. Data was collected on 3-month-old plants in Stuttgart, Germany under greenhouse conditions in March 2022. Color references are to The R.H.S. Colour Chart of The Royal Horticultural Society of London (R.H.S.), 6th edition (2015).
