Description

May 6, 1969 s, BOERNER Plant Pat. 2,885
ROSE PLANT Filed Sept. 14, 1967 United States Patent 2,885 ROSE PLANT Eugene S. Boerner, deceased, late of Benton, N.Y., by Lincoln Rochester Trust Company, Rochester, N.Y., and Roger L. Boerner, Milwaukee, Wis., executors, assignors to Jackson & Perkins Company, Newark, N.Y., a corporation of New York I Filed Sept. 14, 1967, Ser. No. 667,869 Int. Cl. A01h /02 U. S. Cl. Plt.26 1 Claim The present invention relates to a new and distinct variety of rose plant of the floribunda class, which was originated by the late Eugene S. Boerner, deceased, by crossing the rose variety known as Ginger (Plant Patent No. 2,293) with an unnamed and unpatented seedling derived from a cross of the variety known as Ma Perkins (Plant Patent No. 1,143) X the variety known as Garnette Supreme (Plant Patent No. 1,318).
The primary objective of this breeding was to produce a new and improved rose variety having a compact and well-formed plant habit and which is free blooming and useful in all areas. This objective was fully achieved, along with other desirable features, as evidenced by the following unique combination of characteristics which are outstanding in the new variety and which distinguish it from its parents, as well as from all other varieties:
( 1) A compact and well-formed plant habit;
(2) Excellent continuity of bloom;
(3) A distinctive and attractive bloom form; and
(4) A distinctive and attractive general color tonality of the flowers corresponding to Thulite Pink, lightly overcast with Cameo Pink Asexual reproduction of the new variety by budding, as performed at Newark, N.Y., and also at Pleasanton, Calif., shows that the aforementioned characteristics and distinctions come true to form and are established and transmitted through succeeding propagations.
The accompanying drawing shows typical specimens of the vegetative growth and flowers of the new variety in different stages of development and as depicted in color as nearly true as it is reasonably possible to make the same in a color illustration of this character.
The following is a detailed description of the new rose variety, with color terminology in accordance with Ridgways Color Standards and Nomenclature:
