Abstract
A new Chrysanthemum plant named ‘CIDZ0008’ particularly distinguished by the large pure white ray floret color, decorative incurving-spoon type inflorescence form, compact growth, excellent flowering uniformity and good branching.
Description
Latin name of the genus and species of the plant claimed: Chrysanthemum×morifolium.
Varietal denomination: ‘CIDZ0008’.
The present invention comprises a new Chrysanthemum, botanically known as Chrysanthemum×morifolium, and hereinafter referred to by the variety name ‘CIDZ0008’.
‘CIDZ0008’ is a product of a planned breeding program. The new cultivar has large pure white ray floret color, decorative incurving-spoon type inflorescence form, compact growth, excellent flowering uniformity and good branching.
‘CIDZ0008’ originated from a hybridization made in June 2006 in a controlled breeding environment in Salinas, Calif., USA. The female parent was the proprietary plant designated ‘YB-A6182’, unpatented, with white ray florets and is more freely branching.
The male parent of ‘CIDZ0008’ was an unpatented proprietary plant identified as ‘YB-A5410’ with smaller white inflorescences with a fuller center, and semi-incurved ray florets. The resultant seed was sown in October 2006 in Fort Myers, Fla., USA.
‘CIDZ0008’ was selected as one flowering plant within the progeny of the stated cross in March 2007 in a controlled environment in Fort Myers, Fla., USA.
The first act of asexual reproduction of ‘CIDZ0008’ was accomplished when vegetative cuttings were propagated from the initial selection in June 2007 in a controlled environment in Fort Myers, Fla., USA.
Horticultural examination of plants grown from cuttings of the plant initiated in June 2007, and continuing thereafter, has demonstrated that the combination of characteristics as herein disclosed for ‘CIDZ0008’ are firmly fixed and are retained through successive generations of asexual reproduction.
‘CIDZ0008’ has not been observed under all possible environmental conditions. The phenotype may vary significantly with variations in environment such as temperature, light intensity and day length.
A Plant Breeder's Right for this cultivar was applied for in Canada on Aug. 17, 2010 (10-7066). ‘CIDZ0008’ has not been made publicly available more than one year prior to the filing of this application.
The following traits have been repeatedly observed and are determined to be basic characteristics of the new variety. The combination of these characteristics distinguishes this Chrysanthemum as a new and distinct variety.
The accompanying photographic drawing shows typical inflorescence and foliage characteristics of ‘CIDZ0008’ with colors being as true as possible with an illustration of this type.
The photographic drawing shows in FIG. 1 four flowering potted plants of the new variety, and in FIG. 2 a close-up of the inflorescence.
The plant descriptions, measurements and aforementioned photographs were taken in Gilroy, Calif. in mid-May 2011 under natural light. These plants were propagated and grown in Nipomo, Calif. and shipped to Gilroy, Calif. for the data collection and photographs. These plants were approximately 11 weeks of age; grown as four plants together in a six inch pot, under greenhouse trial conditions.
