Abstract

A new and distinct cultivar of Nemesia plant named ‘Inuppear’, characterized by its compact, upright and rounded growth habit; early flowering habit; freely flowering habit; white-colored flowers with orange-colored centers; and tolerance to low temperatures.

Description

Botanical designation: Nemesia hybrida.
Cultivar denomination: ‘Inuppear’.
BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
The present invention relates to a new and distinct cultivar of Nemesia, botanically known Nemesia hybrida and hereinafter referred to by the name ‘Inuppear’.
The new Nemesia is a naturally-occurring whole plant mutation of the Nemesia hybrida Inuprasp, disclosed in U.S. Plant Pat. No. 17,978. The new Nemesia was discovered and selected by the Inventors as a single flowering plant within a population of plants of the cultivar Inuprasp in a controlled environment in Gensingen, Germany during the summer of 2004.
Asexual reproduction of the new Nemesia by terminal cuttings in a controlled environment in Gensingen, Germany since the summer of 2004, has shown that the unique features of this new Nemesia are stable and reproduced true to type in successive generations.
SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION
The cultivar Inuppear has not been observed under all possible environmental conditions. The phenotype may vary somewhat with variations in environment and cultural practices such as temperature, daylength and light intensity without, however, any variance in genotype.
The following traits have been repeatedly observed and are determined to be the unique characteristics of ‘Inuppear’. These characteristics in combination distinguish ‘Inuppear’ as a new and distinct cultivar of Nemesia:
    • 1. Compact, upright and rounded growth habit.
    • 2. Early flowering habit.
    • 3. Freely flowering habit.
    • 4. White-colored flowers with orange-colored centers.
    • 5. Tolerant to low temperatures.
Plants of the new Nemesia differ from plants of the parent, the cultivar Inuprasp primarily in flower color as plants of the cultivar Inuprasp have pink-colored flowers.
Plants of the new Nemesia can be compared to plants of the cultivar Improved Innocence, not patented. In side-by-side comparisons conducted by the Inventors in Gensingen, Germany, plants of the new Nemesia differed from plants of the cultivar Improved Innocence in the following characteristics:
    • 1. Plants of the new Nemesia were more vigorous and stronger than plants of the cultivar Improved Innocence.
    • 2. Plants of the new Nemesia had larger flowers than plants of the cultivar Improved Innocence.
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE PHOTOGRAPHS
The accompanying colored photographs illustrate the overall appearance of the new Nemesia, showing the colors as true as it is reasonably possible to obtain in colored reproductions of this type. Colors in the photographs may differ slightly from the color values cited in the detailed botanical description which accurately describe the colors of the new Nemesia.
The photograph at the bottom of the sheet comprises a side perspective view of a typical flowering plant of ‘Inuppear’ grown in a container.
The photograph at the top of the sheet is a close-up view of typical flowers of ‘Inuppear’.
DETAILED BOTANICAL DESCRIPTION
The aforementioned photographs and following observations, measurements and values describe plants grown in Bonsall, Calif. in containers in an outdoor nursery during the winter and under conditions which closely approximate commercial production. During the production of the plants, day temperatures range from about 18° C. to 32° C. and night temperatures range from about 16° C. to 24° C. Plants were pinched one time and were about ten weeks old when the photographs and the description were taken. In the description, color references are made to The Royal Horticultural Society Colour Chart, 1995 Edition, except where general terms of ordinary dictionary significance are used.

Flowers last about four to five days on the plant. Flowers not persistent. Freely flowering habit with about 24 flowers and flower buds per inflorescence.
