Abstract
A new cultivar of Rosa plant named ‘Bokraskate’ that is characterized by a short dense habit, few spines and scarlet-red flowers with deep red hips.
Description
Botanical classification: Rosa hybrida.
Variety denomination: ‘Bokraskate’.
The present invention relates to a new and distinct cultivar of Rose plant botanically known as Rosa and hereinafter referred to by the cultivar name ‘Bokraskate’.
The new cultivar is the product of a breeding program conducted by the inventor in a cultivated area of Boskoop, The Netherlands. The objective of the breeding program was to develop a new rose with a short dense habit and interesting flower colors. ‘Bokraskate’ is a hybrid that originated from the hybridization of the female or seed parent Rosa ‘Bokrahan’ (not patented) and the male or pollen parent, an unnamed proprietary seedling. The cultivar ‘Bokraskate’ was selected by the inventor in the Summer of 2000 as a single plant within the progeny of the stated cross in a controlled environment of Boskoop, The Netherlands.
The closest comparison plant is the female parent Rosa ‘Bokrahan’. ‘Bokraskate’ is distinguishable from ‘Bokrahan’ by a shorter and more spreading habit and fewer spines. The new cultivar ‘Bokraskate’ is distinguishable from the male parent in having fewer spines and a low spreading habit.
Asexual reproduction by cuttings of the new cultivar ‘Bokraskate’ was first performed in 2002 in Boskoop, The Netherlands by the inventor. Since that time, under careful observation, the unique characteristics of the new Rose cultivar have been uniform, stable and reproduced true to type in successive generations of asexual reproduction.
The following represent the distinguishing characteristics of the new Rosa cultivar ‘Bokraskate’. These traits in combination distinguish ‘Bokraskate’ as a new and distinct cultivar apart from all other existing varieties of Rosa known to the inventor. ‘Bokraskate’ has not been tested under all possible conditions and phenotypic differences may be observed with variations in environmental, climatic, and cultural conditions, however, without any variance in genotype.

The photographs were taken using conventional techniques and although colors may appear different from actual colors due to light reflectance it is as accurate as possible by conventional photographic techniques.
The following is a detailed description of the new Rosa cultivar named ‘Bokraskate’. Data was collected in Boskoop, The Netherlands from one year old field grown plants. The time of year was August and the temperatures ranged from 14-32° Centigrade during the day, and 7-14° Centigrade during the night. The light level was natural outdoor light and there were no photoperiodic treatments or growth retardants used. Color determinations are in accordance with The Royal Horticultural Society Colour Chart except where general color terms of ordinary dictionary significance are used. The growing requirements are similar to the species.
