Abstract
A new and distinct cultivar of Aconitum plant named ‘Cloudy’, characterized by its upright plant habit; thick and strong flowering stems; freely flowering habit; and light blue and white bi-colored flowers.
Description
Botanical designation: Aconitum carmichaelii.
Cultivar denomination: ‘Cloudy’.
The present Invention relates to a new and distinct cultivar of Aconitum plant, botanically known as Aconitum carmichaelii, and hereinafter referred to by the cultivar name Cloudy.
The new Aconitum is a naturally-occurring whole plant mutation of the Aconitum carmichaelii cultivar Arendsii, not patented. The new Aconitum was discovered and selected by the Inventor during the summer of 1985 as a single flowering plant within a population of plants of the cultivar Arendsii in a controlled environment in De Zilk, The Netherlands.
Asexual reproduction of the new cultivar by divisions harvested in De Zilk, The Netherlands since the autumn of 1985, has shown that the unique features of this new Aconitum are stable and reproduced true to type in successive generations.
Plants of the cultivar Cloudy have not been observed under all possible environmental conditions. The phenotype may vary somewhat with variations in environment such as temperature and light intensity without, however, any variance in genotype.
The following traits have been repeatedly observed and are determined to be the unique characteristics of ‘Cloudy’. These characteristics in combination distinguish ‘Cloudy’ as a new and distinct cultivar:

- 1. Upright plant habit.
- 2. Thick and strong flowering stems.
- 3. Freely flowering habit.
- 4. Light blue and white bi-colored flowers.
Plants of the new Aconitum differ from plants of the parent, the cultivar Arendsii, primarily in flower color as plants of the cultivar Arendsii have solid blue-colored flowers.
Plants of the new Aconitum can be compared to plants of the Aconitum cultivar Bicolor, not patented. In side-by-side comparisons conducted in De Zilk, The Netherlands, plants of the new Aconitum had stronger and thicker stems and were less susceptible to pathogens than plants of the cultivar Bicolor.
The accompanying colored photographs illustrate the overall appearance of the new Aconitum, showing the colors as true as it is reasonably possible to obtain in colored reproductions of this type. Colors in the photographs may differ slightly from the color values cited in the detailed botanical description which accurately describe the actual colors of the new Aconitum.

In the following description, color references are made to The Royal Horticultural Society Colour Chart, 2001 Edition, except where general terms of ordinary dictionary significance are used. Plants used for the aforementioned photographs and the following description were about two years-old and grown in an outdoor nursery in Noordwijkerhout, The Netherlands during the late summer and early fall. During the production of the plants, day temperatures ranged from 14° C. to 26° C. and night temperatures ranged from 4° C. to 14° C.
