Abstract
A new and distinct ivy geranium plant named ‘Pengra’ suitable for growth in a hanging basket and having shiny, intense red colored flowers which exhibit ivy-shaped leaves.
Description
Classification: Pelargonium peltatum (Ivy Geranium).
Varietal denomination: ‘Pengra’.
The present invention comprises a new and distinct cultivar of geranium known by the varietal name ‘Pengra’. The new variety was discovered as a seedling in a selective breeding program in Dresden, Germany. The new variety is the result of a combination breeding of unnamed, unpatented selections from breeding group Granat 1999. The new variety exhibits the trailing growth of its heritage, but differs in its shiny intense red flower color and excellent branching. The new variety was first asexually reproduced by cuttings in Dresden, Germany in 2000. The new variety has been trial and field tested and has been found to retain its distinctive characteristics and remain true to type through successive propagations.
The accompanying photographic drawing illustrates the new variety, with the color being as nearly true as is possible with color illustrations of this type.
The following detailed description sets forth the characteristics of the new cultivar. The data which defines these characteristics were collected by asexual reproductions via cuttings carried out in Dresden, Germany. The color readings were taken under natural light on plants grown in 19 cm. pots in greenhouses during summer. Plants for the description were 9 months old. Color references are primarily to The R.H.S. Colour Chart of The Royal Horticultural Society of London.
