Design No. 4,689, dated February 28, 1871.
DESIGN FOR SUGAR-BOWLS,&c.
The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making part of the same.
To all whom "it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOHN H. HOBBS, of \Vheeling, in the county of Ohio and State of YVest Virginia, have invented and produced a new and original Device for Sugar-Bowls and other articles made of glass or pressed porcelain, of which the following is a specification.
The nature of my design is fully represented in the accompanying drawing, to which reference is made, the figure showing a sugar-bowl having upon the lower portion of that part which forms the receptacle for the sugar a series of sheaves of grain, A, inclosed by hands or shields, the parts of which are marked B A O D, and which are raised above the general surface of the receptacle.
The sheaves A, in this instance, are located within the band or shield, and are raised above the general surface, as shown, but such sheaves may be used for the ornamentation of glass or porcelain-ware of any kind, and without the inclosing hand or shield.
I claim as my invention for the ornamentation of glass, porcelain, and other kinds of ware- 1. The design encircled by the band B G 1), consisting of a sheaf of grain.
2. The design consisting of hand or shield B O D and the sheaf A, arranged within such hand or shield.
3. The design shown in the drawing, consisting of a series or succession of hands or shields, and sheaves of grain arranged within such hands or shields.
