Description

UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
HERMAN IHLENBURG, OF PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA, ASSIGN OR TO THE MACKELLAR, SMITHS & JORDAN COMPANY, OF SAME PLACE.
DESIGN FOR A FONT OF PRINTING-TYPE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 21,430, dated March 29, 1892.
Application filed January 20, 1892. Serial No. 418,705. Tenn of patent 7 years.
.To @ZZ whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, HERMAN IHLENBURG, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, have invented a Design for a Font of Printing-Typegof which the following is a specification.
My design for a font of type is fully illustrated in the accompanying typographical impression.
The leading feature throughout the design of the upper-case letters is the zigzagging of part of the vertical members of a number of the letters and the peculiar curve given to others.
The single Vertical members of the letters HB, HD, UF, 1,37 SCJ, Uli, ELL, 1), R533 and U, the left-hand vertical members of the letters H and N, the right-hand vertical members of the letter U, and the eentral vertical members of the letters M and W have short zigzagged portions. There is also a like configuration of the left-hand inclined members of the letter A, of one of tlieinelined members 0f the letterX, and of theinclined member of theletter Z. The outside members of the letter M are curved outward at the bottom, and the outside members of the letter lV are curved inward at the top. The letters C, E, G, and 'I, are formed ofsweeping curves. These curves are carried out to a less extent in a number of the other letters, the whole giving an odd efeet.
I claim- -d The design for a font of ornamental type, as described, and as shown in the accompanying typographical impression.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to thisfspecitication in the presence of two subscribing Witnesses.
HERMAN IIILENBURG.
