SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 18,249, dated April 10, 1888, Application filed February 23, 1888. Serial No. 265,083. Term of patent 7 years To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, CHARLES J. HELLER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Philadelphia, in the county of Philadelphia and State of Pennsylvania, have invented and produced a new and original Design for Metal Front Plates for Police-Hats, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawings, forming a part hereof.
Figures 1 and 2 are elevations showing my newly-designed metal plates for police or other like hats.
The leading feature of my design consists of an oval plate, A, the front surface of which is pitted, indented, or frosted, as shown at a, and is surrounded by a border, 13, of metal, in the form of upper and lower separate borders, b b, respectively, having plain or smooth surfaces b and inner and outer marginal lines, b the upper border, I), having fish-tail configured ends I), and the ends of the lower border, b, be ing concealed beneath said ends. The top border, 1), maybe provided with an upper additional parallel border, 0*, with fish-tail ends, 25 as shown in Fig. 2.
The exact configuration of the oval form of plate A may be varied as desired, so long as the ovoid shape of the same is not departed from.
What I claim is--- The design for a badge for police or other hats herein shown and described, the same consisting of a central ovoid-shaped plate, A, provided with a roughened surface having upper and lower borders, Z) and b, the upper border having fish-tail ends, below which the ends of the lower border are concealed, substan-' tially as set forth.
