DESIGN.
A. OSBORNE.
FAGING FOR FIRE PLACES.
No. 14,384. Patented Oct. 30. 1883.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
ARTHUR OSBORNE, OF HYDE PARK, MASSACHUSETTS, ASSIGNOR 'IO VILLIAM H, JACKSON, OF NEr YORK, N. Y.
DESIGN FOR A FACING FOR A FIRE-PLACE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 14,384, dated October 30, 1883.
Application filed August Il, 1883,
I0 all whomj it may concern:
Be it known that I, ARTHUR OsBoRNE, a citizen of Great Britain, residing at Hyde Park, county of Norfolk, ll'lassnchusetts, have invented and produced n new and original Design for the Facing or Frieze of Fire-place Casings, of which the following is aspccification, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, forming part thereof.
The drawing represents a front elevation of my newly-designed facing or frieze.
Fronts or casings for fireplaces and grates are generally distinguished, when viewed in elevation, by separate raised or depressed figures of natural or ideal objects, leaving alarge part of the surface plane.
The leading and characteristic feature of this new design for the frieze of the entablaturc ol' the casing, when viewed in elevation, consists in gnres in relief representing 1aurel leaves and berries in clusters, arranged as on a vine, with nniting irregular crooked stems substantially covering the panel of the freze within its marginal border.
'lerm of patent T yoann The marginal border A of the panel of foliege and berries consists of a dentilated center transverse to a three-beaded molding upon each side thereof, and a simple flower or rosette of eight leaves, with a small center button at the ends or corners, :is shown. The panel of the frieze is inclosed by the border, excepting a portion at the bottom near each end, where the figure of laurel foliage extends, and covers the surface to the lower edge, so that it may join similar foliage that may be used on pilasteis or jamb-faeings upon which the frieze may be mounted.
I claim as my invention- The design for a facing or entablature for a iire-place herein shown and described, the same consisting of the representation of laurel leaves and berries, with indented beaded rosette border. A
ARTHUR OSBORNE.
