DESIGN.
H. YOUNG.
TEAPOT.
Patented May '7, I861.
rain/f U. S. PATENT OFFICE.
Tea Pot.
HIRAM YOUNG, OF NEW YORK, NEW YORK.
Letters Patent for a Design No. 54, dated May 7, .1861.
SPECIFICATION TO ALL WHOM IT MAY CONCERN:
Be it known, that I, HIRAM YOUNG, of the city, county, and State of New York, have invented or produced a. new and original design for a Tea Pot; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had to the annexed drawings making a part of this specification, in which- Figure 1 is a. side elevation of a. tea. pot, showing my design.
Figure 2, a. vertical central section of ditto.
Figure 3, a detached plan or top view of the lid of ditto.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in the several-figures.
This invention relates to a design for the lid of the tea pot, and a beaded flanch or rim, on which the lid rests when closed.
The invention consists in having the same of concave form, so as to partially receive the knob of the lid, the lid having a beaded rim and a curved inclined side, as hereinafter described.
A is the lid, which is secured to the tea. pot by a hinge or joint 6. The lid. is of concave or cup form, as clearly shown in figure 2. The lower and central part a of the lid is flat, and has a horizontal position when the lid is closed, and the side I) of the lid is curved, being of slightly convex form.
The bottom a of the lid A is sufficiently below the top of the side 6, to receive the greater ibortion of a knob B, which is attached centrally to the bottom a, the lid, as well as the bottom at being of circular form, as shown clearly in figure 3.
2 U. S. PATENT Osman, 1861.-N0. 54.
Youngs Design for a Tea Pot.
The knob B is simply an oblate spheroid, provided with a neck 0 and base 01, the latter being secured to the lid. The upper part of the side I) terminates in a horizontal lip or flanch e, which rests on the top of the tea pot,'and the upper surface of this fiench has a beadf on it, said bead being formed of a series of semi-spherical projections, as shown clearly in figures and 3. The lid A, at its under side, near its edge, is provided with an annular flanch g, which extends down within the tea pot. This flanch is common to most lids, and, therefore, forms no part of this invention. On the upper part of the tea pot there is a rim or flanchh, on which the lid A rests, when closed. This rim or fiench it has a head i on its outer surface, said bead being formed by a series of semi-spherical projections, precisely the same as those of the bead f of' the lid. Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is, the general configuration of the concave lid A, having a flat bottom a, an inclined, slightly curved, or convex side I), and a. bead f on its lip or fianeh e, in connection with the head i on fianch h, all being combined and arranged to form a new and original design for a tea pot.
