Patented May 2, 1939 UNITED STATES Des. 114,529
PATENT OFFICE DESIGN FOR A PENCIL Application January 26, 1938, Serial No. 74,570
Term of patent 14 years To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, Frank 0. Deli, Erik Petau, and Glenn W. Tammen, citizens of the United States, residing at Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented a new, original, and ornamental Design for a Pencil, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, forming a part thereof.
In the drawing:
Fig. 1 is a sideelevation of a pencil embodying my new design and looking toward the clip and showing the cap in place on the pencil.
Fig. 2 is a view similar to Fig. 1 but showing the pencil rotated through 90 and with the cap removed.
Fig. 3 is a side elevation of the cap which has been removed from Fig. 2 and which is shown in place in Fig. 1.
Fig. 4 is a top plan view of the pencil shown in Fig. 1 and with the cap in place.
The design consists in the combination of features illustrated in the drawing and comprises asnovel characteristics a clip having an outer face continuously unbroken from one end to the other and having a longitudinally extending central ridge with a sloping face on each side inclined toward the pencil, the clip being gently curved longitudinally without any abrupt offsets and free from any fastening bolts or nuts; and a cap having a cylindrical hollow body stepped in to a smaller diameter with an intervening shoulder, and an outer end stepped in to a smaller cross-section and having substantially vertical flattened faces each merging at its top into a triangular shaped facet, which facets converge in an upwardly inclined direction with their apices meeting in the center of the cap.
We claim: The ornamental design for a pencil, substantially as shown and described.
