PATENT OFFICE DESIGN FOR A STOCKING ration of Pennsylvania Application March 1, 1937, Serial No. 67,928

Be it known that I, Stafford G. Cowan, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at #2 Garth Road, Scarsdale, in the county of Westchester and State of New York, have invented a new, original, and ornamental Design for Stockings, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, forming part thereof.

Fig. I is a rear perspective view of a stocking with a back ridge seam showing my new design; and Fig. II is a detail on a larger scale of the portion of the stocking bounded by the dash and dot line rectangle II in Fig. I.

The ornamentation consists of spaced blocks along the usual back ridge seam (which is indicated by the closely spaced parallel lines in the foreground in Fig. I and by the dark strip area medially of Fig. II) formed by a thread which contrasts with the body of the stocking fabric and which is wrapped around said seam at well spaced intervals to produce a dotted line effect. The stocking is entirely plain at the front.
