The invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which- Figure 1 represents the device in extended position, and Fig, 2 representsit in folded posit-ion. Fig. 3 is a view of the upper clips. Fig. 4 is a view representing either the upper or lower pivoted clip.
In carrying out my invention, I employ two main bars 1 and 2 which are parallel with each other, and I connect these bars by a lazy tongs arrangement consisting of the cross bars 3, 4, pivoted together centrally of each other and connected with the main parallel bars by links 5 and 6. The upper main bar 1 has an eye or loop 7 by which the device may be suspended, and this bar also has clips of spring form adapted to receive beneath them the paper sheets, and press said paper sheets upon the main bar 1, thus clamping the sheets to the device. These clips 8 are of curved form, Fig. 3, and are adapted to receive beneath them a considerable number of the sheets which are to be held. The lower main bar 2 is provided with clips 8 of spring form pivoted thereto, which may be turned to and from position over the main bar 2, so as to hold or release the lower portions of the paper sheets. Then the paper sheets are clamped by the spring clips at the upper main bar and by the springs at the lower main bar, and the intermediate frame is extended to separate the main bars, the sheets will be held properly extended for use. The device may be folded to occupy little space, and this may be done while still holding the sheets. I provide also clips 9 pivotally mounted on the upper bar, these being in the form of leaf springs and adapted to be moved over the bar to clamp the sheets, these springs being Specification of Letters Patent.

WVhen it is desired to expose any one of the under sheets and hold the upper sheets out of the way, these upper sheets can be curled up or rolled and the upperclamping fingers 9 can be turned around to enter the end of the roll so as to hold these sheets up while the balance of the sheets are clamped down flat on the file by the lower clamping fingers and thus any particular sheet may be exposed while the others are rolled up. The lower rod will fall by gravity from the upper rod, and thus place strain upon the paper sheets to hold them substantially flat.
I claim as my invention 1. A filing device for paper sheets consisting of an upper member with means for suspending the same, a lower gravitating member with an extensible frame suspending the same from the upper member to fall by gravity, said members having means to clamp the paper sheets, substantially as described.
2. In combination the main bars 1 and 2, an adjustable connection between them to permit said bars to be moved toward or from each other, the upper bar having spring clips to engage the paper sheets and the lower bar having pivotally mounted clamping devices, substantially as described.
8. In combination with the two main bars, the cross bars between them pivoted together and linked to the main bars, and clamping devices on the main bars for holding the paper sheets.
4. In combination in a filing device for paper sheets, an upper rod, a lower parallel rod, and folding connections between the rods whereby the rods may be brought together, and folded or rolled with the paper sheets, substantially as described.
5. In combination with the upper and lower bars, the main clips on the upper bar and the pivotally mounted spring clips at the end of the upper and lower bars, substantially as described.
