Specification of Letters Patent.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, JOHN E. WIDMAN, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of the city of Chicago, county of Cook, and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Arch-Supports and Foot-Rests, of which the following is a specification.

My invention relates to improvements in arch supports and foot rests and has for its object the provision of an article of this nature which shall be of simple construction and efficient in use.

The invention consists in the combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter described and claimed.

The invention will be best understood by reference to the accompanying drawings forming a part of this specification, and in which,

The preferred form of construction as illustrated in the drawings comprises a leather insole 1 having an upwardly turned lip at 2 at one side adapted to contact with and support the arch of the foot. A leather reinforcing piece 3 is cemented across the central bottom portion of insole l and is extended at the side to extend under and reinforce lip 2. An upwardly arched reinforcing spring 4: is riveted to the top of reinforcing piece 3 by means of rivets 5 located near one end of said spring. The end 6 of spring a adjacent rivets 5 is beveled as shown in Fig. 7 so as to cause the same to lie flat against the upper side of piece 3. A second reinforcing leather piece 7 is placed partially over spring 4 and under the arch portion of insole 1 and is provided with a side lip 8 extending laterally between lip 2 and the lip extension of piece 3, as shown in Fig. 6.

The insole above set forth will be found to be strong and durable and highly efficient in use.

WVhile I have illustrated and described the preferred form of construction for carrying my invention into effect this is capable of variation and modification without departing from the spirit of the invention. I, therefore, do not wish to be limited to the exact details of construction set'forth but desire to avail myself of such variations and modifications as fairly fall within the spirit and scope of the appended claims.

Having described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:

1. An arch support and foot rest comprising a leather insole provided at one side with an upwardly turned lip arranged to contact with and support the arch of the foot; a reinforcing piece of leather secured across the central bottom portion of said insole; an upwardly arched reinforcing spring riveted at one end to the top of said reinforcing piece under the arch portion of said insole; and a second reinforcing piece of leather interposed between said spring and the bottom of said insole, substantially as described.

2. An arch support and foot rest comprising a leather insole provided at one side with an upwardly turned lip arranged to contact with and support the arch of the foot; a reinforcing piece of leather secured across the central bottom portion of said insole; and an upwardly arched reinforcing spring riveted to the top of said reinforcing piece under the arch portion of said insole, said spring being beveled at one end to lie flat on said reinforcing piece and the rivets being passed through said spring adjacent said beveled end, substantially as described.

3. An arch support and foot rest comprising a leather insole provided at one side with an upwardly turned lip arranged to contact with and support the arch of the foot; a reinforcing piece of leather secured entirely across the central bottom portion of insole and under said lip, substantially as 10 said insole and extending under said lip; an described.
