Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented J lily 25, 1911.
Application filed August 19, 1909. Serial No. 513,698.
and we do hereby declare that the followin is a full, clear, and exact description thereo reference being had to the accompanying drawings, in which like letters refer to like parts.
The object of this invention is to improve rangements, particularly with reference to the manner of building up the armature so that the same will be simple, cheap and yet the device be effective and satisfactory. It is desirable in employin armatures for magnetos to be able to use orm wound coils, as they simplify the manufacture of the armatures. Also, it is desirable in any such construction to be able to employ a continuous armature shaft, instead of attaching a shaft to each end of the core.
The chief feature of this invention consists in forming the core of two parts adapted to be clamped on opposite sides of the shaft, each part of the core having a central projection that extends through a form wound coil. Thus the entire armature consists of a shaft, two opposite portions of the core, two form wound coils and screws for securing the parts of the core to the shaft.
The nature of the invention will be understood from the accompanying drawings and the following description and claim.
In the drawings Figure 1 is a central longitudinal vertical section through the device. Fig. 2 is a transverse section on the line 2-2 of Fig. 1.
The drawings show a casing having a bottom 10, top 11 with intermediate poles 12 and ends 13, inner magnets 14 resting on the poles and outer magnets 15 overlapping the poles. The particular construction 0 the foregoing portion of the magneto has no necessary relation to this invention and may be modified in any Way as desired.
The invention relates to the armature, which consists of a shaft 17 that is continuous and uniform in diameter, being a simple rod having hearings in the end 13. The core is made up of two similar parts consist:- ing of an outer transversely segmental p01 tion 18, with a central inwardly exten iag shank 19 that is formed concave on its inner end to fit on the armature shaft. A form wound coil 21 is slipped over the shank of each part of the core, and the two parts of the core are brought together on opposite sides against the shaft and secured to the shaft by any suitable means. Herein screws 20 pass through one art of the core and through the shaft into t e other part of the core.
VVhatwe claim as our invention and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
An armature for a magneto formed of a continuous shaft, a core formed of two similar separate parts having an outer segmental portion and inwardly extending shank with the inner end thereof concave to fit on the shaft, a form wound coil throu h which said shank portion of each part 0 the core extends, and means for securing the two parts of the core to and on opposite sides of said shaft.
In witness whereof, we have hereunto affixed our signatures in the presence of the witnesses herein named.
